  • “Who could deny that privacy is a jewel? It has always been the mark of privilege, the distinguishing feature of a truly urbane culture. Out of the cave, the tribal teepee, the pueblo, the community fortress, man emerged to build himself a house of his own with a shelter in it for himself and his diversions. Every age has seen it so. The poor might have to huddle together in cities for need’s sake, and the frontiersman cling to his neighbors for the sake of protection. But in each civilization, as it advanced, those who could afford it chose the luxury of a withdrawing-place.” ~ Phyllis McGinley Acrylic, mixed media abstract painting inspired by the Chauvet Cave of southern France. Original is 16” x 20”

  • For some reason I always find myself drawn to the moon in my greatest times of adversity…. seeking solace in the Mother Goddess maybe….. perhaps some ritual remnant of pagan ancestors….. Either way, it soothes me. The ritual known as Drawing Down the Moon is the Wiccan/pagan ritual of drawing the spirit of the Goddess/moon into the practitioner to enable the Goddess to speak directly through this person. / It is a very sacred ritual amongst followers of this faith. • This image was from a pastel on watercolor wash series titled, “Madonnas del Agua.” This picture was so popular that I had to do two, one for each grandmother! It was featured on one of my books as cover art. I am of the school of human evolution popularized by Elaine Morgan in such works as “The Aquatic Ape.” She explains the theory of human evolution taking a turn in the shadow ocean off the coast of Africa before returning to the plain as the “mighty hunter.” Once you read this theory, every other theory is pretty much ridiculous. To celebrate humans, I did many pictures of them in a more natural environment of under water. Babies under the age of 4 months readily take the water and have no problems holding their breaths. It is only after this age that a fear of water will occur. As for me, I swim better than I walk!

  • When I set up for this shot, I had the Eagles song of this title name pop straight into my head. I thought to myself, this is what I will name this shot. I could not hear a thing, there was not even birds chirping, no breeze, it was silence. I think I could easily get addicted to shooting in the early morning! :) Shot on the outskirts of Kilcoy, Queensland, Australia. Shot about 30 minutes after dawn. Canon 50D, 22mm, 16:9 crop. Available, and best viewed LARGE!

This artwork was featured in Dimensions, Imaginative Realism, The Dreaming Tree, Color Me A Rainbow, Art For The World, and Parallel Dimensions Placed 4th in the Dream A Little Dream challenge. Placed 7th in the Best Of Featured Blue Works challenge. Recently I was asked where I get my inspiration from, and to be honest, I have no real answer to that. Sure, I could say the music I listen to, the stories and poems I read, but that doesn’t really explain why certain images and ideas come to me. Reality has never really done it for me, and I remember being a young child who wondered why life had to consist of only the normal, boring, everyday routine. Why did I have to live vicariously through films like “The Little Mermaid” and “Alice and Wonderland”? Why couldn’t I make this abstract longing for the surreal and the impossible come to life on my own terms? My dream has always been to give life to the ideas that come to me, to make them visible. Tangible. I live my dream every day. Stock Credits / Model / Background from ImageAfter.com / Stock copyrights remain the property of their respective owners.
