Was chuffed to get some exposure (no pun intended) (yellow brick road & car park on Collins). I am battling with a new camera and seeing what it can do. A little bit obsessive at the moment but this will probably pass. / Im finding myself composing shots in my head all the time. Ive got the itch bad. / I want to organize a night shoot soon with an arts based focus using words and slogans. Simple but striking I hope. / Thank you all for the inspiration.

Just what it says on the label.!!! I have not entered a journal entry before. in fact I never bothered with a diary when it was “the thing to do” as a kid. It is supposed to be therapeutic and cathartic and lots of other words ending in ”..ic” to maintain a journal, but I could never see the point! Having never been part of a “social networking” computer thingy and in fact I must say I have rather scorned them until now, it seems a little odd to be tapping out my thoughts to the wild whirled web ( perhaps that could be my next tee shirt, so don’t nick it). Any way, my kind regards to all my fellow “Bubblers” who take time to read this, and indeed those who don’t! I am really enjoying the simple pleasure of sharing my images with all of you and the even greater one of dipping into your work and seeing what real talent and fine art is “out there” in the real world. Thank god, or who/whatever there is that there are places like this for humble bums like me to be able to show off, just a bit. Keep up the fine and beautiful work, and I will try to rise to the challenge, myself. Long live art in the free world!! Dave B

Lately I’ve been extremely busy with my art making practices as the end of my Advanced Diploma approaches it’s close. I admit I have not been as active on here as much as I would have liked. Not posting works regularly, neglecting my group, not replying to the wonderful feedback I have recieved. Well firstly I would like tp say thanks to all those who have left comments on my work (especially after I was featured on the homepage recently), I always appreciate them deeply and they help me carry on. And secondly, once my diploma is complete I will be doing a mass upload of all the works I have completed this semester so you can have a chance to see what I have been up to all this time. So hopefully I will survive the next few weeks and see you all on the otherside! / Mathew

This might be of interest to anyone with their own sites: This morning, during my first “coffee in the office”, I was reading my various RSS feeds and found this item on the Google Blog. Thinking that it sounded kind of interesting I went and had a look and realised that it would be dead simple to implement on my photography pages. With less than an hour’s work (a lot less really, it took longer to set the colours than it did to sort out the code on my site) I had a social networking, rating and commenting system added to my site. If you’ve got your own site and you fancy the idea of people being friends of the site and, perhaps, commenting, rating and also telling others about it, it’s worth a look. See here for my main photography membership page and here for an example of a page with the ability to rate and comment.

Stuff is good! And a list of stuff is even better, because that’s more stuff. A friend in “Marketing Mavens” sent this to us. It’s a list of social sites and services for web 2.0. It has a lot of interesting places listed, and gives you a short statement on the focus of each group. Check it out, and you may find places to help you do what you do. It’s at go2web.

(2009.APR.04) I have just received a B-Mail announcing that, unless the Show Me A Sign / Group increases activity, the group might be closed. This group is dedicated to improving the plight of the homeless, as well as addressing other social issues through art. I know that many of my friendly Bubblers are concerned and involved with these issues, so I hope some of you might find the time to check out Show Me A Sign and add your support—and WORKS – to this worthy group! More details at Group News Thanks for reading! / Arla

With blogging and Twitter and links between MySpace, Facebook,Plaxo, Redbubble and others, I am busy lately, trying to figure it all out. Until recently my efforts on the computer have been functional not social: MS Word for writing, Xcel and Access for budget, Quicken and Taxcut for business/ taxes and Outlook for e-mails. I still have not learned Photoshop and all the many fancy doodads and hoohas out there that make computing and ostensibly, life, faster and better. I feel as awkward as a certain Deputy Fife in the cyber world. I think this is true for many in my generation. We simply did not grow up with computers and do not “get it” as quickly as our children. But we kinda have an excuse don’t we? When I was in high school , the class of “77” had a solitary computer in the principal’s office. I think it had 64K of memory. That should date me fairly well to you of my generation. As a matter of proud fact, I am 50 years old as of last Sept. and my enthusiasm for novelty not having waned one iota in all that time, I find myself blurting out to my computer programmer, code-genius son, my daily accomplishments with the internet. “Today I took some html tags and added them to my blog on MySpace.” He nods appreciatively. ” I learned to make playlists for my YouTube site and my MySpace account. They play my favorites when I log in!” I say this with dignity and a Barney Fife arrogance; My Sheriff Taylor son is only indulging my boastfulness out of politeness. He tells me about a radio station on the internet that is easier than all that. “Aye yae yae!” But it feels good to learn more and I am proud of myself, having this vain Barney Fife notion that I might be able to keep up. Whoops! Just fumbled the keyboard! I’m good,,,got it,,,just orange juice,,,ooh , darnit all , not the coffee too, Jeepers, criminy what a mess,,,but everythings A-OK Fife’s in the house and is large and in charge! Yeppper! Yessireebob! You betcha! F-I- F-E ! I may not have the e-technical savvy of my Sheriff Taylor son and no I am not twittering yet; have’nt really had time to go there yet. But I am making my way in this strange new world and am good with that. Gotta keep my eye on the flatscreen,,,and my coffee cup,,oops jeepers not again, AND the orange juice,,,,,,,,,, criminy don’t they make these things with cupholders? Cheers, RVG

A little while ago I created a little controversy in the Black and White group. I won’t go into the details of what happened, but I have to say the outcome was bloody glorious. The thread became the most active in the group’s history, there was rather passionate debate about participation and democracy and the image in question got more attention than it ever would otherwise… and in a roundabout fashion drew attention to an important issue which was almost beside the point at the beginning of it all. But it just reiterated to me the importance of pissing people off. To drag them kicking and screaming out of their apathy. Even if they’re determined not to learn something its great to be able to get them to engage with something they might otherwise like to have pretended doesn’t exist. Don’t be afraid to make a strong statement. Don’t be afraid to defend yourself and your statement – even if it feels like you’re the only one on your side – because you might be reaching out to that one person in the room who is so intimidated by the world that they can’t even say how much they agree with you. And maybe that will help them too.

As I sit here and think of the past year, what comes to mind is the history of our nation….the United States of America. There are many misunderstandings about us, and some ARE warranted, but most are NOT. Only if you live here, will you understand us, and the same way about any other country and it’s people. You can not believe magazines, and the regular news media outlets. I see more truth, from the British news, that I get on line, than I see in our OWN news!!!!! WHAT IS THAT?? / Well, I ask one thing for you to do and that is to watch this you-tube / For a moment forget who is talking…and focus on what is being said THEN YOU DECIDE / SHOULD WE GO SOCIALIST-—OR FIGHT AGAINST IT ! DID YOU KNOW THAT TONY BLAIR BROUGHT SOCIALISM TO THE U.K.? I SURE DID NOT!! BUT IT’S TRUE! THEY DON’T LIKE IT….IF YOU ASK THEM! I READ THE “DAILY MAIL” ON LINE. YOU SHOULD TAKE A LOOK ONE DAY, TOO——THEN YOU DECIDE
