These two just struck me. I did a colour conversion of the IR to get the blue sky.
All is calm… all is white.

This Polar Bear was a long way out on the sea ice looking for seals. / / The sea ice is shrinking at an alarming rate, which has a huge impact for the bears as this is their main hunting ground. More and more bears are being found to have drowned while trying to find the ice, even though they can swim up to sixty miles or so! / / I hope the ice does not completely vanish and that they always have somewhere to hunt! / / (Spitsbergen – Scandinavian Arctic) / / / / / / / / / / / / / / / / / / / / / / / / / / / / / / / / / / / / / / /

Snow covered bridge over an icy creek shortly after a heavy wet snowfall. Taken on local park district property which, after 32 years living here, I never even knew existed until I caught the Shutter Bug a few years ago. Bolingbrook, Illinois
The beautiful Pyrenees in clouds. I photographed this image in Andorra, a tiny country with amazing nature.
Cool picture. Literally … Winter 2007 / 2008: China had its coldest winter in 100 years. Baghdad has seen its first snow in all recorded history. North America had the most snowcover in 50 years, with places like Wisconsin the highest since record-keeping began. Record levels of Antarctic sea ice, record cold in Minnesota, Texas, Florida, Mexico, Australia, Iran, Greece, South Africa, Greenland, Argentina, Chile — the list goes on and on. It’s cold outside, so lets light up the fireplace to stay warm and snuggly and watch some movies. Frozen road construction signal in Munich, Germany, / late December 2007 / / Laminated Print /

It’s the first day of winter in Canada, and though we have no snow here in Toronto, Ontario, just north of us it is very deep and very cold…it’s unusual that in the city there is none….I’m not complaining, I love that it’s still fairly warm and dry, so this painting is from remembered first days in the past...a few samples from the Winter series can be seen below Watermedia on Arches Paper “On the first day of winter, / the earth awakens to the cold touch of itself. / Snow knows no other recourse except / this falling, this sudden letting go / over the small gnomed bushes, all the emptying trees. / Snow puts beauty back into the withered and malnourished, / into the death-wish of nature and the deliberate way / winter insists on nothing less than deference. / waiting all its life, snow says, “Let me cover you” Laura Lush, The First Day of Winter / Grateful / The Sentinels / Winter’s Light / Birchwood / Effet de Neige
