As I said on my “Polar Love” image, this was the best day of our Arctic trip. We were so lucky to spend hours with this mum and cubs as they moved around the ice flows. These cubs were around seven months old and full of joy – although they did not seem all that keen to follow mum this time! / / The sea ice is shrinking at an alarming rate, which has a huge impact for the bears as this is their main hunting ground. More and more bears are being found to have drowned while trying to find the ice, even though they can swim up to sixty miles or so! / / I hope the ice does not completely vanish and that they always have somewhere to hut! (Spitzbergen – Scandinavian Arctic) / / / / / / / / / / / / / / / / / / / / / / / / / / / / / / / /

South Georgia is one amazing island that you all must try to get to, if you don’t mind four days in rough seas on a boat that is!!! But it is truly worth it…. This image was taken at a place called “Salisbury Plain”, where there are approximately 250 000 penguins! The sound as you come over the hill is tremendous, not to mention the smell!! More art than photo, really… took this in a near-whiteout at Perisher, and extracted the main tree by massively increasing contrast and levels. Hence the slight fuzziness, hence the large drop-off in detail behind the tree, and hence (I think) the rather pleasing effect!

Jokulsarlon is a glacial lake that meets the sea in Iceland. One of the most beautiful places i have been on our little planet Earth. The tragedy is that this beautiful photo would not be possible without global warming. When in a cafe at a petrol station i saw a postcard of Jokulsarlon. One single large iceberg floating in the centre. As you can see now the lake is full. This is the second image from outside this winter. I took this Thursday morning while strolling around in the snow storm :) The few trucks that passed me looked at me like I was crazy walking along side the road, and I took very few shots because I was afraid to get my camera too wet but the snow looked amazing. I did some work with this one in photoshop to turn the snow from grey to white- but there really was that much snow that you couldn’t see the road or anything in the distance.
