I stood in the snow behind the tripod, so quietly that one bird landed on my lens! What joy. I couldn’t actually say we bonded, but I was thrilled. I’ve had birds land on my hat, but never one that I could see so closely. Featured in Alaska ~ Beyond Your Dreams – Thank you! Shot in RAW. Slight curves adjustment, at the suggestion of Eivor. The snowfall made it necessary to bump up the ISO to 320. I tried ISO 640 at one point, but those looked a tad grainy. This is a male Common Redpoll in today’s snowfall. Note snowflake on his back. Our area has so far eluded Mt. Redoubt’s harsh volcanic particles, although Alaska Airlines and FedEx had to suspend all flights in and out yesterday. The sunlight through the petals and leaves looked lovely against the backdrop of the snow outside. Our short days make sunshine seem all the more precious, even indoors. Geese returning to Alaska, framed against the Kenai mountain range across Cook Inlet. Signs and sounds of spring near our house, despite ice chunks in the inlet. Nikon D200 and a Nikkor 18-200mm at f/11 and 1/250 sec, -.3ev, using a circular polarizing filter. IS0 200. Converted from RAW to jpeg using Capture NX2. Light curve and slight crop. Sun sets about 9:45 p.m. these days, and we’re gaining light quickly. Featured in DSLR Users Only – 3 A Day – Thank you. That’s very encouraging! Whoopee! Sold a mounted print! Thank you! I feel so energized I could climb one of those mountains now! / Sandhill Cranes leaving for the winter, with the Kenai mountains covered by clouds / Sandhill Cranes catching a thermal over Cook Inlet before migrating south for the winter. /

Watercolour painting on Arches watercolour paper. I dropped paint onto wet paper then shaped the painting, adding trees and lines to create the desired effect. Winter Begins Autumn recedes and winter steps in / The leaves have all fallen the snow begins. / Falling softly settling on dried leaves / Gimpses of light sparkle through the trees. Linda
