A peculiar winter storm started with rain, moved on to sleet, then snow, leaving everything covered in glistening ice. The beauty of it gives this long winter a sliver lining. Photo was taken at Raymond Ridge Park in Madison, WI, with Nikon Coolpix L3.
Title due to a very horse like shape on the horizon that I hadn’t previously noticed, not sure if it will be noticeable on viewable size.. or if it was a horse! Taken in Iceland, February 2008.

Sometimes the sun has not been given enough time to go down in style. It is chased out of the sky, its light butchered by dark featureless and easy to forget clouds. Not this evening though. In such a wonderful setting and with all the time in the world, at its own pace, it gently covered the whole universe, material and the other one, with its pink warm residue leaving you with an overwhelming feeling of relief and joy. It is often hard to imagine a place like this for us city slickers, with the clock meaningless, space limitless, and your soul miles away from the tension and stress, the main culprits behind the structural damage of our emotional self. Later that night I was carried through sleep on a cushion of wonderful dreams until the sun made its usual roundtrip. Does this surprise you?

Pike’s Peak as seen from Cherry Creek State Park reflects the Sunrise, a cold dad to be sure when I was shooting this, amazing to think that Peak is about 55 miles away as well! Processed in HDR, thoughts welcomed! / —-John
Stopped on our drive home Boxing day to capture this lovely pinto with a backdrop of the setting sun on the Rockies north of Cochrane, Alberta. Hope you like it. Some PS work applied.

A sunset shot of Fajada Butte, Chaco Canyon, Chaco Wilderness, New Mexico, USA. Chaco Canyon has been termed the “Stonehenge of the Americas” because the pueblos were built with an orientation to the heavens. On the side of Fajada Butte are three rock slabs that have been arranged to cast shadows and/or to permit rays of light to interact with a stone tablet positioned behind them. At solstice and equinox, the sun and/or moon interacts with the tablets to mark the day. The Chaco Canyon ruins have been painstakingly excavated and it is easy to see the grandeur that was Pueblo Bonito. With its many warrens of rooms and passageways and more than 30 great kivas, it is surmised that it was a welcome center and convention hall for the puebloans who descended on the area from a wide range of far-flung territories, their purpose being to celebrate the solstice or equinox at Fajada Butte. Pentax K110D ISO 200 1/180 @ F8 160mm.
