  • I have finally found out what this plant is called and I was close with my original title of ‘Snowdrops’, which is just what popped into my head when I looked at this plant. I now know it is commonly called Snow Queen, hence the title change. If anyone is desperate to know, its botanical name is Pieris.

  • Created in photo shop CS3 with free stock photos. / The Snow Queen (Sneedronningen) is a fairy tale by author Hans Christian Andersen (1805 – 1875). The tale was first published in 1845, and centers on the struggle between good and evil as experienced by a little boy and girl, Kay and Gerda. The story is one of Andersen’s longest and is considered by scholars, critics, and readers alike as one of his best. It is regularly included in selected tales and collections of his work as well as being frequently reprinted in illustrated storybook editions for children. The tale has been adapted in various media including animated film and television drama. /

  • There is really only a very vague similarity to the characters in the classic Hans Christian Andersen story. I adapted the characters and melded them into a vision I had of beauty and betrayal and birds; though mine look more like seagulls than ravens, and the beautiful girl is linked with, and becoming birds herself. In this state she can self-inflict pain and actually draw blood. It’s all very convoluted and doesn’t quite make sense. What pleased me greatly was the fact that the painting was bought by a listed Australian Artist for his personal collection. The medium used was damped out tissue paper, acrylics, ink, and Liquitex. There is more symbolism in the painting which is difficult to interpret, and some of it I don’t like thinking about, as it opens doors long closed. I was fairly pleased with some of the line work, and I think I achieved the coldness I was seeking. Thanks for looking,

  • Beautiful Bella appears from her ‘nest’ in the hayloft to confront the snow filled morning. Taking her time to survey her domain before descending the iron ladder to come in for her breakfast – whilst she ponders she has acquired a dusting of snowflakes. She sleeps inside a large tin trunk in the corner of the loft – it is filled with a soft fleece blanket and surrounded by straw and hay from days long gone – it is her place of solitude and retreat from visitors and the other cats! It’s hard to believe that she was so ill just a short time ago – it is just wonderful to see her so well and happy again!

  • Look really closely beneath snow-laden branches, or out of the corner of your eye in a snowstorm and you too might catch a glimpse of the Snow Queen! Featured in the Out of the Blue group! Thanks, guys! :-)

  • This image was not taken by me, it was taken of me by my boyfriend! I wouldn’t ordinarily upload stuff I haven’t taken myself, but this is an example of me modeling which I’ve done occasionally on the side. This is from some of my favorite shots of me my boyfriend has taken. I did pose in the snow and it was cold! Taken in 2008 © Jessica Walker

  • A photo I took during one of the worst winter storms in Maritime history. They named it “White Juan” after “Hurricane Juan” that devasted most of the province only months before. It was storming and the fog was like pea soup… at the same time! There is an apartment complex just on the other side of those trees but you’d never think it.
