So this week Russ has started work on building a new MyBubble overview page … it’s going to take quite a few weeks to complete but I thought you might be interested in a sneak preview. There’s a few different reasons for this update … he’s my quick summary. 1) We humans are much better at processing images than words – so we’re looking for a design that’s much more visual. The expectation is that this will make it easier for us to browse large amounts of information without it feeling like hard work. 2) It’s hard to stay in touch with things that we’re interested in on RB (e.g. forums threads and comments on a work) – so we’re introducing the idea of a ‘subscription’ that would alert you to a new post once you’ve subscribed to a forum thread or comments against a work. 3) I think people are most interested in things that have happened to them; then they’re interested in things that their friends have done and then they’re interested in what’s happening in their groups. So we’ve divided the left hand screen up in that priority order. 4) We want BubbleMail to be for personal communication – for group communication we want to have the idea of a group journal that the hosts can write in and you would then receive a notification in MyBubble as new mode of communication. Well that’s about it … I’m pretty excited with the changes … the next change I’ll preview is probably a complete overhaul of groups. To see a mock up of the new MyBubble go here.

It’s still very much a work in progress … but we’ve been listening to a bunch of feedback and thinking about what we want to achieve with the MyBubble page (challenging our assumptions). This version of the design still enables us to introduce the important concepts of a subscription and group news … but still retains the ‘feed’ feel of the current design (and is a better design in my opinion). This design would allow full configuration of the feed – we’re still to work out how this interface will work … As an interesting note, only 12% of our current members have made any configuration of the current MyBubble page … One of the things I like about this design is that it’s presenting a visually simpler activity feed … it feels a little lighter … which is one of the things I’d like to achieve. If it looks broken in IE please go and buy a mac and try it in safari (it’s still a work in progress) ;-) http://plusminus.com.au/clients/redbubble/MyBubble/mybubble-index2.html## - Peter

    / ... here’s a little sneak preview of what I’m …

/ ... here’s a little sneak preview of what I’m working on right now :) This is only a cropped view of it, I’m saving the whole thing for later when it’s completely coloured.. and then I’ll show you the rest. So far, it’s taken me 15 hours to draw it, with lots of detail required for the wicker weave in the pram. I like detail, but this was seriously a lot of work! lol Phew! Glad I’ve finished the drawing, and look forward to the process of colouring now, probably digitally… but I can only work at short intervals… all this close work is hurting my eyeballs :) Happy creating everyone!
