This quirky painting is of my cat Zorro and his favourite food, fresh snapper! Acrylic On Canvas, measuring 60×60cm. Just a fun painting I did earlier this year when I first thought that this would be a good time in the year when I made a decision to rekindle and embrace my creativity.

A low pressure system sitting just north of Brisbane is generating a serious swell on the Goldie! Snapper Rocks, SE Qld
Snapper Rocks 2008. The swell jumped a bit today and luckily enough i had taken an annual leave day. Coincidence or checking the surf forecast…you tell me:) Nikon D200 / Tamron 17-50mm

For such a common fish the Snapper seems to have a lot of names. In NSW its also known as Red Bream, Cockney, Squire, The Light Horseman and Pinkie. Personally I prefer Wallumai, after all that’s what the local Sydney-siders called it for tens of thousands of years. Much more dignified than “Pinkie”.
What a glorious sky! (even if I do say so myself!) 3 bracketed exposures blended in Dynamic Photo HDR. I used the Canon 5D with 16-35mm at 16mm, f/8, three different exposures, ISO 50, and just one Lee filter at this stage, ND grey 0.9soft, tripod and cable release. Nick and I were hoping to catch up with Ken Wright for a shoot, but the weather wasn’t looking good. Ken decided to sleep in, but Nick and I drove down to the coast anyway. Sat in the car while it rained and waited, and waited….then walked down to the rocks after dawn, with umbrellas….and waited some more….eventually I weakened and asked for the keys so I could start shooting…. I’m glad I did…..got some rippers, in the end! Thank goodness for the heavy clouds, makes shooting after dawn so much easier! Canon 5D, 16-35mm at ?, f/11, 0.6”, ISO 50….lee nd grad filters, tripod, cable release, firm footing on high ground, surging tide. 14 February 2009 ~ Late afternoon ~ Snapper Rocks On Friday a low pressure system formed off Gladstone late on Friday generating a large storm swell along Australia’s East Coast. By Saturday afternoon the swell had risen to a rather decent size making the paddle out rather precarious! (Canon 40D, 500mm handheld, touch of contrast, minor crop, no photoshop)
