  • Consequence
    by Dave Moilanen

    US$4.43–US$101.08

Surrealism. In the course of every day life one is always confronted with having to make a choice about something. For every choice one makes, one must be prepared to pay the consequence. Adam and Eve had a choice. You can always think what the consequence may be in the land of Bryce. / © Dave Moilanen 2007

  • Buddha Within
    by Maya -

    US$5.51–US$125.93

Oil on canvas 24” X 24”. Completed April 2008. www.RainbowPathArtStudio.com “All living beings have the Buddha nature and can become Buddhas” / – Buddha Buddha Within illustrates the story of personal awakening. My understanding of the personal awakening process is that when undergoing the final awakening stage, the kundalini (rainbow serpent) becomes an intense fire (red/orange beside the tree trunk) shooting through the spine engulfing the body. The energy (green vortexes) required is enormous. As the kundalini reaches the crown chakra, it fully opens and all earthly limitations drop away. This being is no longer tied to a religion or faith but now embraces them all as represented by the sacred symbols in the tree. The consciousness now resides in the higher self and is one with the universe and all that is. When the transformation is complete sonic waves (the four vertical crystalline waves) travel out into the universe to let all of creation know of the grace that has taken place. All life is naturally drawn to the radiant and divine being that has become pure Buddha consciousness (centre). At each of the chakra points on the Buddha is a Swarovsky crystal in the relevant chakra colour. Crystal magnifies the properties of the chakra energy. / Buddha Within is divided into four quadrants (earth, fire, water, air) and the five elements including precious metals (bottom corners). The red veins dividing the quadrants represent the lower dimension (inner earth). The higher dimension is represented by the white equilateral triangle. If you look closely, you can see the texture of the underlying branches in the tree. These were meticulous painted before adding the covering of leaves. The tree must be complete in the physical, in order to emit the complete energy of the life form. Imbibed in the painting is sand from a sand mandala created by Gyuto Monks. They had spent a week painstakingly building an exquisite sand mandala. Upon its completion the mandala was ceremonially deconstructed and the sand poured into the local river for healing, accompanied by prayer and the blasting of Tibetan ceremonial horns. Some of the sand is held back and distributed to those who attend the ceremony: it holds sacred healing properties. I used some of the sand from this mandala, mixing it in the purple paint used for the crown charka encircling the white triangle and Buddha. Buddha Within is the third in a series and preceded by The Dream and The Awakening.

  • The Dream
    by Maya -

    US$5.51–US$125.93

Oil on canvas 40” X 40”. Completed 1995. www.RainbowPathArtStudio.com “I saw the angel in the marble and I carved until I set him free” / – Michelangelo The Dream was the first painting that I had completed from a vision. Painting The Dream was a very interesting process for me. I was concerned how others would react to a non-Aboriginal person using a style normally synonymous with Aboriginal art, i.e. dot painting. For this reason, when it was completed, I was hesitant to show it to anyone for some years. In November 1999 I succumbed and included The Dream, along with The Awakening, in a Sacred Art exhibition that featured six local artists. The exhibition began with a special welcoming ceremony performed by the Aboriginal Elders of the region. Afterwards, the Aboriginal Elders approached me and asked questions about my visions and paintings. They said they liked my work. I was so happy and relieved to hear that. Local dignitaries, including the Governor of South Australia, Sir Erik Neal, attended the public opening. To my surprise Sir Erik Neal invited me to display The Dream at Government House (his official residence) for six months to which I agreed. After the exhibition, The Dream featured in the main boardroom of Government House to be viewed by visitors from all over the world. The story of The Dream is about the creation of our universe. The snake (Rainbow Serpent) represents the Creator. The centre shows the creation of our universe, with the hands representing the creation of spirits in all dimensions and the eggs, the creation of life. The greens and browns represent land and all things that live on the land. The shades of blue and purple represent water and all creatures that live in water. The branches and red berries represent nourishment and sustenance. / At this stage in the story, Creation is not complete; hence the black (unfilled) background at two corners. The Rainbow Serpent has entered a sleep state and has begun dreaming our future. The Dream is the first of a series showing the transition of the universe from Creation to enlightenment. The next of the series is The Awakening.

  • Colored Pencil, original available / GODDESS OF SMALL THINGS Who cares for all beings, including the plain, non – descript, or annoying creatures everyone else ignores, drives away, or attempts to destroy? I think there needs to be a special goddess dedicated to this purpose alone. She will be the goddess who inspires us to notice the quiet child in a classroom, to acknowledge and respect the shy or awkward person nobody else bothers with. Those who honor this goddess will be recognized by random acts of kindness and senseless gestures of mercy. Devotees will capture and release the ladybugs that accidentally fly indoors during late autumn – or let them sleep in peace right through ‘till spring, snuggled in a corner of the window sill. They’ll be the persons who don’t recoil, but instead admire the plain brown snakes undulating gracefully across trails on warm spring and autumn days. A universal, daily prayer of this Goddess cult will be the ritual of feeding the nameless, drab birds as well as their more glamourous cousins. This Goddess of Small Things will be a guardian of all life, not just the colorful, dramatic forms.; she won’t pick and choose. We are surrounded by creatures deserving our tolerance, if not protection. The field mice and voles falling into basement window wells, nameless brown birds pecking for seed in the ice, non- descript beetles, mangy stray dogs and flea bitten feral cats. Who watches over the almost invisible little creatures sharing our world as they go about the daily business of crossing busy streets, avoiding predators, traps, and poison? The Goddess of Small Things is another name for the gentle heart that respects and protects all the little creatures deemed commonplace, disposable, or undesirable. The smallest face and tiniest beating heart holds a sacred place in the hoop of life, and is entitled to compassion and respect. Text copyright Helena Nelson – Reed.
