Malta
For the “God’s Signature” challenge. As soon as I read that there was to be a ‘God’s Signature’ challenge, this tree immediately came to mind. I call it the Cruciform Tree. It is a well-known tree in Malta. it is situated on the main road we refer to as ‘Rabat Road’. People sometimes light a candle or two, or place flowers at this extraordinary tree. For this picture, I lightened the ‘cruciform’ slightly so it would be more visible. No manipulations to the actual tree at all. This is a sculpture of nature. To me this truly is God’s signature! The below is a link to another image of this tree. My dear RB friends, I appreciate your comments greatly! I prefer to reciprocate them rather than thank you individually so please do not be offended by my lack of replies here. I shall be commenting on your work instead. Thank you all… Astrid x
This is one of my favourite creations to date. To me this epitomizes the colours and charm of the Maltese islands. Maybe I’m being fanciful…. or am I? Thanks all for looking! x Best viewed larger….
And now for the latest news… Malta was yesterday plunged into complete darkness for a brief millisecond as Ms. Astrid Pardew caught the sun in her bare hand! (lol) PS This is a single image. No compositing or layering.. /
Steps at one of the side entrances of the cultural centre known here in Malta as St.James Cavallier. Thanks for looking! x
Setting off fireworks at the local village ‘festa’, which is the maltese word for feast. This was shot with my mid-range zoom lens. It was a handheld shot. 1/10 sec at f4. ISO 200 and focal length 24mm. It was not easy to get this shot but I finally managed to get one I liked. I used to think that it was not possible to get a decent image hand-holding a camera in low light. Sometimes I like it when I prove myself wrong :) I would still rather have had my tripod with me though!!
For the Living Christianity Group Day 1 Genesis Challenge This is also available without the border, as are all the other images with borders in my folio. Please ask if interested. My dear RB friends, I appreciate your comments greatly! I prefer to reciprocate them rather than thank you individually so please do not be offended by my lack of replies here. I shall be commenting on your work instead. Thank you all… Astrid x
Another shot of what I call the Cruciform Tree. This tree is a sculpture of nature. It is situated in Malta, vicinty of Rabat on the main road leading to it from the direction of Attard. I posted this one in addition th my previous BW shot because it shows the actual tree better I think. Just to prove to you its a real tree :) The below is a link to the BW image. There are absolutely no manipulations in this shot. Just the standard tweaking of colour and levels.
Created for the Dimensions Group ‘Through My Window’ Challenge Needless to say this is not my window…but one is allowed to dream…sigh!
Made for the ‘Motivational’ challenge. This is available without the border, as are all my other images that contain a border. It is also awailable without the wording. Please bmail me if interested.

For the Lines Challenge Just a pylon! Had to lie flat on the ground to get this angle :) Available without the border. My dear RB friends, I appreciate your comments greatly! For the ‘Abstract Tree’ Challenge / This incredible-looking trunk is only a small part of a massive tree from the Ficus family. It is situated at san Anton Gardens, Attard, Malta. My dear RB friends, I appreciate your comments greatly! I prefer to reciprocate them rather than thank you individually so please do not be offended by my lack of replies here. I shall be commenting on your work instead. Thank you all… Astrid x
My dear RB friends, I appreciate your comments greatly! I prefer to reciprocate them rather than thank you individually so please do not be offended by my lack of replies here. I shall be commenting on your work instead. Thank you all… Astrid Like a vice it grips me, / Wrenching, unyielding. / This loneliness. / Alone-ness. Despair tugs at my heart strings, / Desolation ebbs over me. / Remorse, self pity, doubt. / Where has hope gone? No way out, / No light ahead, / Just darkness, / Coldness, / Nothingness… It hurts, this void I feel inside! A.Pardew
Beautiful, antique wrought iron framework. This is a section of a fine grid on a window. I was attracted by the glow of light coming from behind.. My dear RB friends, I appreciate your comments greatly! I prefer to reciprocate them rather than thank you individually so please do not be offended by my lack of replies here. I shall be commenting on your work instead. Thank you all… Astrid x
This lovely elderly lady was full of grace and quiet determination as she made her slow progress through a charming street in the old city of Mdina, Malta.
I shot this very recently at the village feast of Zurrieq, ie July 2008. Zurrieq celebrates two different feasts. This one was dedicated to Our Lady of Mt.Carmel and the next one is due very soon. It will be the feast of St.Catherine. To shoot this, I mounted the camera with 24-105mm zoom lens attached, onto my tripod. I shot this on manual settings. Speed was 0.7 sec at f/8. Focal length 32mm. I had a vantage point here as you can see! On the left side, where there is the building with the high festoon, is one of the local village’s band club. As can be observed the flat roof is filled with patrons who came here to enjoy the fireworks display and to make merry!
This beautiful chapel forms part of the church of St.Dominic in Valletta, Malta. It was taken on the day of the feast dedicated to the patron saint, hence the damask adorning the walls. The larger view offers more clear detail…
A detail from the magnificent church at Mosta, Malta. Needless to say this is best viewed larger…
A detail from the ceiling of Mosta Dome Church. Best viewed larger. PS> I want to thank all of my freinds here at redbubble, and to all the people who kindly comment on my work, that I vewry much appreciate the support. I have decided not to reply to individual comments as it is too time consuming, and in fact I would prefer to browse your own folios and comment on your work instead! :) THANK YOU ALL!!!! xxx
This is a detail from the altar of Mosta dome church. The altar has been ‘dressed up’ for the feast of the ascension of St.Mary, as has been the whole of the church. The detail is somewhat lost in such a small image….so you know what to do :) PS> I want to thank all of my freinds here at redbubble, and to all the people who kindly comment on my work, that I vewry much appreciate the support. I have decided not to reply to individual comments as it is too time consuming, and in fact I would prefer to browse your own folios and comment on your work instead! :) THANK YOU ALL!!!! xxx
