Curliques of campfire smoke pass behind two tree trunks.
A fantasy piece of a waterfall and train
Nature setting a bad example: this birch tree looks like it’s got a face and is smoking a cigarette. lol

here the palms are majestic against a clear blue sky / Today there is a fire burning 20 miles away (Laveen) and the ashes are falling on us like snow flakes…cough cough choke choke /
The steam from the trees, as the sun kisses ‘good morning’, / combines with the early morning chimney smoke, / to create a feast for our senses. Can’t you just smell it ! Upper Kangaroo Valley N.S.W. Taken with a Fuji Finepix S9500 / Speed: 1/500 / Aperture: F8 / ISO: 200
Fog slowly lifts from the coves floor. Dawn has awakened all of nature to a new day. The coolness of night still lingers. The dew clings to all it has touched for it knows its time has come to leave. In a few hours Cades Cove will be bathed with the warmth of a new day………Imaged made from 4 shots stitched in CS3.This also is my 1st attempt at a stitched panoramic……taken in Cades Cove,GSMNP….shot a couple weeks ago while shooting with Sherri and Ronnie Hamilton
Chasing the impact of those huge but still distant fires, I stopped the car almost in the middle of a busy road to grab this quite surreal display

A still evening in high Summer. The heat can still be felt just by looking into the sky as the Sunset washes the countryside with its amber tones, bringing out the charm and character of the location. As you stand here watching the trees sway in the wind you feel the warm breeze on your face. Momentarily closing your eyes you are lost in a moment of complete tranquility and peace, as nothing apart from the sounds of nature and your breath can be heard. Silence is truely golden and this is examplified even more at the very moment you open your eyes and behold this wonderous beauty before you. Darkness falls across the land, the temperature drops as the light receeds and the colours of the landscape fade to black. Soon the countryside will fall into Hibernation once again. The sun can be felt on your face as you watch it set. Your shaddow becomes lighter and lighter until it too has vanished. However just before the light surrenders to the darkness, it finds its last reserve of strength and bursts out, filling the sky with its own version of a Renaissance masterpiece. It’s very true what they say about saving the best till last. What a perfect golden moment to end the day with. The ‘dry season’ in Darwin Burn-offs and grass fires are common for weeks on end. / The result hazy skies…...
It’s a well kept secret, not many people know about it, but it is a dragon artist who paints all the fiery colours into the trees in the fall. Composite made of a smoke art photo that I had previously modified to emphasize its resemblance to a dragon, see the original Smoky Dragon for more details. I duplicated the dragon layer and blended in multiply mode in order to make it pop out a little more. Next, I added an autumn sky texture on which I applied an Orton effect, then painted in a few birds with a set of brushes that I made from my photos of seagulls. Featured in the Dragon’s Fire group on April 15, 2009 The little dragon is also available on a plain white background /

Was on my way to pick up my son from Kindergarten and was looking at the abandoned building that is immediately across the road from the Kinder. From the roof there was pitch black billows of thick smoke escaping. I (along with others) called the emergency fire station and could hear the engines coming within minutes. Went into the kinder to get Kane and it was so ironic because the teacher had just finished handing out Fire Safety leaflets to all the children from a recent visit from the local firemen. We walked out and the whole scene became quite a spectacle. Traffic stopped… locals everywhere… firetrucks, police, young kids standing around out the front. Of course the photographer in me immediately wanted my camera in hand… so I raced home with my boy and we walked back up to the scene. These are the photo’s I got (this is the first in a series of 3).
