have always wanted to capture a big plane landing but could never be there at the right time or having the wind blowing in the right direction. The low clouds helps bring the plane closer than usual….i could almost touch it….hahhah. To see a hugh metal flying over you at approx. 200kph is…...priceless. The jetfuel, the noise…...Perfect. After sheltering under a nearby boulder from a late afternoon tropical downpour my patience was rewarded with a rainbow only befitting the Garden Isle’s most majestic valley. Excerpt from a “letter to the editor” ”.....it brought back fond memories of my (several) hikes to ‘Heaven on Earth’. Last time I took my honey she threw down her pack and proclaimed loudly, ‘This is insane. I’m not going a step further!’ / As I peered over the more than 600-foot vertical drop to the ocean I began to remember, many years ago, my first hike to Kalalau. Well, I had to yell at her, and if I had a bull whip, I may have had to use it (joke). She happily thanked me later for making her finish the hike, and indeed she verily danced with confidence on the return leg. / For the purist, hiking is the only way. Every corner is a new breathtaking vista that serves to only lighten that heavy pack. Paddling – it sounds like fun, but you really haven’t experienced Kalalau unless you hike it and spend a few days there. Like fine wine, there is no hurry to drink. / What’s the big rush ? ‘Getting there is half the fun.’ But Kalalau is ‘being there is all the fun.’ Experience its night sky filled with so many stars you will see your own shadow and swear its moonlight. I was initially going to use a roadmap from a part of Israel…but then I figured it would better to use Texas! Just not sure why? hmm…hehe Road map for peace The “road map” for peace is a plan to resolve the Israeli-Palestinian conflict proposed by a “quartet” of international entities: the United States, the European Union, Russia, and the United Nations. The principles of the plan were first outlined by U.S. President George W. Bush in a speech on June 24, 2002, in which he called for an independent Palestinian state living side by side with Israel in peace: “The Roadmap represents a starting point toward achieving the vision of two states, a secure State of Israel and a viable, peaceful, democratic Palestine. It is the framework for progress towards lasting peace and security in the Middle East…” Definition from Wikipedia I never was any good at folding maps back up… / Now there is only 999 more cranes to make…till world peace!

Please View Large Eilean Donan is a Scottish Heritage Site. Wikipedia © The original castle was built in the early 13th century as a defence against the Vikings. By the late 13th century it had become a stronghold of the Mackenzies of Kintail (later the Earls of Seaforth). In 1511, the Macraes, as protectors of the Mackenzies, became the hereditary Constables of the Castle. / In 1539 Iain Dubh Matheson, chief of the Clan Matheson died whilst defending the Castle on Eilean Donan island against the Clan MacDonald of Sleat on behalf of the Clan Macrae and Clan Mackenzie. / In April 1719 the castle was occupied by Spanish troops attempting to start another Jacobite Rising. The castle was recaptured, and then demolished, by three Royal Navy frigates on 10–13 May 1719. The Spanish troops were defeated a month later at the Battle of Glen Shiel. / The castle was restored in the years between 1919 and 1932 by Lt. Col. John MacRae-Gilstrap. The restoration included the construction of an arched bridge to give easier access to the castle. In 1983 The Conchra Charitable Trust was formed by the Macrae family to care for the Castle. A curious distinction is that it has one of only two left-handed spiral staircases in a castle in Great Britain, as the reigning king at the time of building held a sword with his left hand. One strange feature of the castle today is the grey field gun from the Great War, positioned outside the building by a war memorial and fountain dedicated to the men of the Macrae clan who died in the war. / Eilean Donan is the home of the Clan Macrae. In 2001, the island had a population of just one person. Please View Large This image was taken from The Glenfinnan Monument which is owned by the Trust for Scotland, which is part of the National Trust. Wikipedia © Prince Charles initially landed from France on Eriskay in the Western Isles. He then travelled to the mainland in a small rowing boat, coming ashore at Loch nan Uamh, just west of Glenfinnan. Here he was met a small number of MacDonalds. He waited at Glenfinnan for a number of days as more MacDonalds, Camerons, McPhees (Macfie) and Macdonnells arrived. When he judged he had enough support, he climbed the hill and the McPhees (Macfie)raised his royal standard, on Monday 19 August 1745, and claimed the Scottish and the English thrones in the name of his father James Stuart (‘the Old Pretender’); A MacPhee (Macfie) was one of two pipers at Glenfinnan when Bonnie Prince Charlie raised his banner there in 1745. Brandy was distributed in celebration. So began the rebellion that was to end in failure eight months later at the Battle of Culloden (16 April 1746). Many MacPhees (Macfies) followed Cameron of Lochiel in the second line into the Battle of Culloden in 1746. / After Culloden, in his flight to evade government troops, Charles came to the same area again. After being hidden by loyal supporters he boarded a French frigate at the shores of Loch nan Uamh, close to where he had landed and raised his standard. Today The Prince’s Cairn marks the spot from which he departed. Please View Large Wikipedia © / Alnmouth is a village in Northumberland, England. It is situated just off the main A1068 road (to Ashington), about 4 miles (6 km) south-east of Alnwick. / Located at the mouth of the River Aln, the village has been an important trading port in Northumberland’s past, mainly involved in the export of grain, and smuggling. Due to the trade in grain, the village contained a number of granaries. The port declined after the river changed course during a violent storm in 1806. This incident also resulted in the original church which stood on Church Hill being destroyed. The church had already suffered much erosion by the river and was in a state of collapse. After the loss of the grain exports, the old granaries were converted to houses. / Today, Alnmouth is a popular tourist resort. It is within the Northumberland Coast Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. The village boasts the fourth oldest golf course in the country. One of my four grandaughters, Elizabeth. Taken earlier this year in February when she was about 2 1/2 yrs. She was bouncing around on my bed while I was taking loads of shots. This is the only one that turned out half decent and it is not as sharp as I would like. She is just can’t keep still for more than a nano sec.
