A crooked house on a crooked creek, with crooked boats from a crooked fleet, tied to crooked stairs next to a crooked street, where all the crooked people meet? My brother showed me this amazing place that has been seemingly lost in time. Many people still live here in Finn Slough, British Columbia Canada and the charm, character & history of this little community is evident in each and every home there. Cool place, I hope it never changes. This is the tiny school which is part of this little community ~ /

Summer evening . . . One of my favorite campsites in Yellowstone on the banks of Slough Creek. This is Griz country – big male walked right across the creek seen here while we camped last summer. Took this shot, of these two beauties, along the pathway of hiking boardwalk path … in this magnificent setting.. of the 6 mile Cypress slough reserve. _Fort Myers, Florida _ I am so proud of this place, and proud of the students that saved a piece of land from those”developers 6 mile cypress park In 1976, a group of Lee County students studying the role of forested wetlands in Florida’s ecology became alarmed at how fast these environmental treasures were disappearing to private interests. The students, known as “the Monday Group,” envisioned a place where visitors could stroll among majestic cypress trees and catch the whisper of Florida’s primordial past. They sought an oasis where guests could observe the vast array of plants and animals that live in a place that is sometimes land, sometimes water, sometimes both. In such pristine surroundings, they hoped that people could begin to learn how wetlands provide priceless but often hidden benefits, such as water purification and storage, natural flood control and wildlife habitat. Knowing that Six Mile Cypress Slough was under imminent threat from logging and the channeling away of its water, the Monday Group launched a daring campaign to save the area for future generations. Lee County voters responded overwhelmingly by increasing their own taxes to purchase and convert the Slough into a preserve. But, worthy causes are not always easily won. Much effort was needed throughout the 1980s to protect the Six Mile Cypress watershed from the effects of outside development, such as pollutants and the draining off of vital water sources. The Lee County Board of County Commissioners and South Florida Water Management District found themselves battling to maintain the integrity of the preserve’s water source. These efforts culminated in 1991 with the Lee County Department of Parks and Recreation opening the preserve’s boardwalk and facilities to visitors. Today, the department remains challenged with balancing the needs of water conservation and wildlife management with the recreational needs of the public. A growing group of volunteer naturalists educate the preserve’s many visitors on the interrelationships of water, wildlife, plants and man – fanning the flames of the torch lit by Lee County students decades earlier*

it is so fun to watch different birds and how they behave. an Egret is one of those that walks with head tall.. but watch that beak.. they are ready for the kill , with patience, they search and all of sudden they spear. so it is search and spear with them 6 mile cypress Fort Myers, Florida straight from the camera. / sony DSC H 7

While walking with the girls at the Six Mile Slough the other day I came across this view, certain parts of the slough can get to be pretty dark and you have to reset your settings on your camera or sometimes you just forget because you just want the shot as happened with this photo, wile converting some photos yeaterday I saw this one and thought how magical it looks. And I could picture at night when all the slough is quiet and people are nowhere around the fairies come out of their homes to play with the little creatures that hide in the slough, I do not know what these are they are some sort of flower pods Ithink they have spiney things sticking out of them, that is what I was trying to photograph while I was bent over the rail as Isa was taking a photo of me lol enjoy and thanks for viewing / There is no editing in this photo this is how it came out!!! This is sunrise on Saganshkee Slough. It’s a 325 acre lake that is very shallow and mediocre to poor for fishing. It is located in southern Cook County in northern Illinois. However, since it is about a mile and a half long (2.4 km), it gives a nice long view of the lake at sunrise or sunset.

This bridge is part of the California North Coast railroad that connected Humboldt County with the outside world. This entire section of rail which runs to the San Francisco Bay Area is now abandoned. Because of the lack of timber and the use of trucking this bridge is now only used for foot traffic. This bridge is crossing over the Eureka Slough as it flows into the Humboldt Bay just north of Eureka CA.Eureka CA. Abandon Railroad bridge. It has an old lift section that was used to allow small boats to travel under the bridge.

I painted this painting from one of a number of photos I took this year at Sioux Passage Park. Sioux Passage is one of my favorite places near my home. I often ride my bike over to the park and ride through it and down to the Missouri River. The park is very hilly so I get a good workout. I usually take some watercolors or a sketch pad with me and sketch or paint a couple of scenes. My photos were taken when the leaves on the trees were still green so I had to use my imagination to create the autumn colors. I really love these kinds of scenes where trees and branches are reflected in the calm water. Give me a spot with a stream, lake, or river on it and I’m happy. This is an 8×10 inch oil on canvas board and is framed.
