Baby sloth- Punta Uva, Costa Rica. The baby had fallen out of the tree and the gardeners found him. They were pushing him around in a wheelbarrow to keep him safe from a large boa constrictor that was roaming the premises. I’m not sure how, but the baby was eventually reunited with his mom… We saw them in a tree together a few days later. Nikon D700 / 105mm / 1/400 sec / f3 / ISO 200
I don’t know how long I’ve had this idea and not done anything with it.
mixed media on wash&draw paper A3 .. inspired by conversation with DAMcD and some Roy Skogvold’s works / .. visual contemplation on the nature of ‘sin’ as being an integral part of our human make up … symbolism of gold colour to accentuate the preciousness ( preciousness of the perceived value we often attach to our sinful preoccupations as well as preciousness intended for our bodies) ... bright colors for a loving design … blots and drips to symbolize the tainting of the otherwise perfect relationship between the Creator and the Creature …... / ... there is a traditional categorization of sins … these days perhaps rather outdated by realization that sin as such does not really hold some exact categories …. nevertheless I am upholding – very loosely – these categories for the sake of series of images on this theme …. armed with my sons ‘atlas of human anatomy’ .... looking more closely and lovingly onto “the clay” we are all made up of …..
I promise that I’ll stop drawing sloths soon and go back to drawing the pretty girls.
From a sketch that I did, whilst i was in Australia. / From a photo of a frog that, I believe, lives in Currumbin Wildlife Sanctuary (Gold Coast, Australia). Painted in acrylics and mostly composed of dozens of successive ink washes. I’m rather pleased with the overall effect. I just can’t decide whether I want ot put in a background or not. What do you think?

Slow Race
The T Shirt Revolution group is having a textless seven deadly sins tee shirt challege at the moment and this is my entry. I’ve been sitting here thinking it always seems to be the seven deadly sins that get all the press and how the seven contrary virtues never seem to get an outing….. so this entry contains all the sins and all the virtues in one hit. This is the whole package…. all light and all darkness flow from here…... mix lust, gluttony, avarice, sloth, anger, envy and pride in with humility, kindness, abstinence, chastity, patience, liberality and diligence … it’s a combination that sounds like it would mix up a bit like a sack full of kittens …..... and it comes out as …...sunday bloody sunday….....it’s what we long for and what we loathe all at the same time…....
From my current series on the seven deadly sins. This is Sloth….
I’ve had a weird hankering to sketch sloths for the past few days. I hope I’m not turning into a furry…
From my current series based on the seven deadly sins. This is Lust.
Some times you just need to rest.
Sloth Bears are endemic to the Indian subcontinent, with 10,000 of them living in India and Sri Lanka. Other populations can be found in southern Nepal and as far as Bangladesh and Bhutan. Sloth Bears are stocky with long, shaggy, black hair and a white U or Y shaped marking on the chest. Large lips, a long tongue, a pale muzzle, a mobile snout and well developed hook-like claws that enable them to climb trees and dig for termites. They do not hibernate due to a constant availablity of ants and termites throughout the year. The sucking noises made by feeding can be heard from over 100 metres away. They also feed on fruits and flowers. Destruction of termite mounds for their fine soil, mainly used in tennis courts, leads to the loss of an important dietary component. Also local demand for the Mohwa flower, (used to make an alcoholic drink) has emerged as competition for one of the bear’s dietary components. Presently, Sloth Bear numbers are shrinking and populations are becoming fragmented due to continuing habitat degradation by humans. Their numbers are also dwindling because body parts like the gall bladder and fat are valuable commodities in the trade for traditional Asian medicines. Bear claws are worn in many parts to ward off evil. In addition, female bears are killed so that their cubs can be sold and used as ‘dancing bears’ for street side entertainment. If undisturbed by human influences, these beautiful animals can live a long life of up to 25 years.
