Mammoth slide at Moomba fairground, Melbourne 2007. This was taken the day after Moomba had closed and a team of workmen were dismantling everything in the Alexandra Gardens. I was lucky that this was untouched, because I guess they were leaving the huge slide until the end. The midday sunlight was very strong, as you can see from the sharp shadow in the red ’’lane’’. I shot this tight frame because of the impression of motion. I do not crop, enhance or post-edit my images in any way. Shot with a Pentax K100D with a Sigma 18-125mm lens. F11, 1/500 sec, ISO 200, focal length 125mm. Featured in NUMBERS ONE TO A TRILLION, May 2009. Featured in JUST LINES, July 2009. Featured in ALRIGHT, WHAT IS IT, August 2009. Death Valley National Park, USA / / The Ubehebe Crater system contains several volcanic craters, cinder cones and ash hills, all resulting from an explosive steam eruption approx. 2,000 years ago, when rising magma met an underground lake. Ubehebe is by far the largest crater, 2,400 feet in diameter and 500 feet deep and presents a very colorful spectacle with variegated, buckled strata around its sides and grey-black ash on the rim. A slippery climb with an awesome view !
