animoto is pretty sweet – they take images, mash them through some motion graphics templates and give you a flash video. Here are some of my RB images If animoto had an API I’d buy RedBubble a business account with and do this automatically for everyone’s portfolio. Some people would bitch about using their work out of context or whatever, while others would spread their art around the web.

By Darren Stones Please note: Updated January 22, 2008 Note: Please click on images for more details. Each August, the whale watching season begins in earnest on Australia’s picturesque eastern seaboard. As a result of my journey to Hervey Bay during August 2006, I had the pleasure to record the magnificent humpbacks as they frolicked in the calm waters of Hervey Bay. I’d like to extend an invitation to you to view my whale watching slideshow. The slideshow is a culmination of work which was undertaken by me with the kind assistance of the staff and crew of Spirit of Hervey Bay. As most are aware, the humpbacks are still being slaughtered for what can be loosely claimed as research reasons. Bearing that in mind, please give your support the best way you can to help “Save the whales”. The link to my slideshow will take you to the Photodex web site. The slideshow has been produced using the ProShow Gold software package. Upon reaching the site, you may be required to download a tiny bit of software to view the show. Many photographers may already have this software installed on their system. I cordially invite you to experience one of our greatest animals in action from onboard the whale watching vessel ‘Spirit’ of Hervey Bay. ...well, almost all anyways. Members who had approved artwork or tees as of a week ago will find one of their works in the Bubblemania Art Show – which comes in two formats. A stand-alone executable Slideshow file – Download This File A Screensaver file to use as a computer screensaver ; Download The Screensaver File Artist’s credits are at the end of the show. Please take time to read about the file usage and selection process here: Bubblemania Art Show Rather than select a few, I included one work from all artworks and t-shirts (one submission per artist) at the time I created the file (somewhere around January 11th or 12th, I think). Unfortunately, I couldn’t come up with a good way to include the writing in a slideshow, since each slide is only up for 5 or 6 seconds. If anyone has an idea for incorporating the writing into something like this I wouldn’t mind putting something together to promote the writing. In the meantime, I hope that many of you will be able to use one of these files to promote your work on Redbubble, and to bring people to Bubblemania to look at the art. Usage of these files is not limited to Bubblemania members. EDIT: as a side note, I can also produce the slideshow to play on your TV as a Video CD (VCD) or as a DVD. If you have a DVD burner, I can save the file in a video file format and you can burn it to play on your TV.

The reason I’ve been so quiet lately, is because I’ve been bust behind the scenes creating slideshows, and building my limelight website. Like anything new, it took me a while to get my head around it all, so my focus has been very much on figuring it all out. Although there’s lots more to add to it, I’m now ready for it to go live, but I think there’s a time delay before it becomes viewable. Originally, I was just going to create ordinary galleries for the artists featured on the site, but I’ve since discovered I have the software to create slideshows. I thought this a much more interesting way to showcase the work, so over the last few days, I’ve been busy on those. For a sample of the action, here’s my own. I chose works that were slightly dark or mystical for this show, but I will be creating another featuring some of my other work. I’d love to hear what you think, good and bad. There is unavoidable pixilation that occurs, even though I’ve used my high resolution files. Any other critique and feedback very much appreciated. Many thanks, and I hope you enjoy the show! jen :-)

Since Randy (snowdog) had some problems in dowloading the slideshow and screensaver files, and mac users couldn’t make use of either file I created some alternatives so all the members can make use of them in one way or another. The PC versions of the screensaver and slideshow.exe were recreated WITHOUT the sound files (I’m hoping that will solve the problem Randy had). Download the slideshow.exe WITHOUT SOUND for PC here Download the screensaver WITHOUT SOUND for PC here For MAC USERS I created a video file which is designed to be burned to DVD or VCD. You can download the video files from this thread in the Bubblemania forums if you really want the actual mpeg file – these are extremely large files – please read the forum post before you try to download them. Bubblemania Video File Post I am currently in the process of uploading the video file to YouTube for those who aren’t able to (or don’t want to) download the huge video files. Once the YouTube video goes live I’ll post the link in the same forum post. EDIT – incredibly, the YT version is already live. Best watched in the smaller size, you can view it on YouTube here Please make sure you read the information posted about the video files before trying to download or view them. For any of you who missed my first post – you can find the screensavers and slideshows with their corresponding links in this forum in Bubblemania Any artist who was a member of Bubblemania AND had artwork accepted last week (Jan. 12 “ish”) has one piece of their submitted artwork or a tee in this project.

Folks, below is a link to an updated journal entry which features a whale watching slideshow I produced in October 2006. I highly recommend you take time to view it and witness how beautiful a whale watching journey in Hervey Bay, Queensland, Australia can be. The journal entry Save the humpback whales was originally posted by me on June 21 2007 and I’ve completed a minor update to it. Save the Humpback Whales Thanks to Helen Bascom and kathleen for taking action and bringing the “Save The Whales” issue to the attention of RedBubble members again. Also, well done to members who are contributing to the cause via their art, t-shirts, journals and writing. I’ve completed a sample of a screensaver created using some of the images submitted to the Bubblemania group. You can download the file from HERE Simply place it on your desktop and double click the icon – I don’t believe it will install, it should just play. (see the end of this journal entry for a list of artists whose work is included in the file) The image selection was basically a “hit and miss” – nothing was chosen with anything specific in mind other than the image orientation – this batch is landscape orientation. This production is a very small size since the software used to produce it is a trial version AND this version is to allow the contributing artists to have a look before I finalize it – there are also “nag” screens all over the place. I’ve ordered a business license for the software, so I’ll recreate it in a larger size without the baloney once I receive the license. The software will also produce an executable file containing the same screensaver as a SLIDESHOW which you might find useful as a promotional tool. Both the screensaver and stand-alone slideshow can be burned to CDs and given away to promote your work and sales at RB. These are not mean to be hosted on a website (though you can upload the file and urge people to download it from your site). Centered at the bottom of each image RB “Buy this at Redbubble” logo and a clickable link to RB, but the small version has cut most of it off. To exit the screensaver or slideshow file, simply hit any key on the keyboard – unlike using mouse movement I’ve elected the key option because I want people to be able to use the mouse to click on the RB jump link. When you exit the slideshow/screensaver there is a page listing the contributing artsts and a blurb urging people to visit their profiles on RB. I think I may also include some license terms in this page before I finalize it – ie: people may give away this screensaver or slideshow, may use it for their own promotion or advertising; may NOT sell it or package it within any other software; may not export images from the file or screen capture any image contained within the file, etc. (By the way – the file settings are locked so that complete images may not be exported.) NOW, before the finalization of the file, is the time to suggest any changes or anything specific you’d like to see included in the licensing terms. I just sent this out in a bubblemail to all the members of Selective Coloring, but I wanted to also post in in the journals, so that nobody mises it. I am excited to share a few things with you. I have wanted to find a way to showcase the beautiful art from The Selective Coloring Group on my website at: www.selectivecolors.com. And Chris Seabrooke had an awesome tip in the forums where he had a flash widget slideshow that can be added to websites and blogs. So I now have a flash slideshow on the homepage to show off the incredibly gorgeous art from our group. I did not select which images are in the slideshow. I think it may only show the most recent images only, so keep on posting. Also, when you click on the image, it will bring you back to the same image on red bubble. So, it’s a nice little feature that helps the members get some well deserved exposure. Also, I have added a new photo editor, so you can edit your photos right at: www.selectivecolors.com. Go to: Edit Your Photos:.http://www.selectivecolors.com/edityourownphotos.htm This is by FlauntR. It has tons of amazing features, and once you edit your photos, it automatically saves your image, so you can go back to it. You can also import and share at: Flicker, Facebook, Myspace, Picassa, Bebo, FlauntR, Word Press, My Journal, My Yearbook, Type Pad, IGoogle, Xanga, Net Vibes, Word Press, Vox, and more. You can also get html and save to your website, gallery, or other website, send in email, email you images to the web. YOu can also send the image as wall paper right to your mocile phone. Some editing features include: Resize, rotate, Crop -Color, hue, exposure / -Red Eye Removal / -Effects: Sepia, blur, emboss, Boost, grayscale, solarize, soften, sharpen, monochrome / -Mosaic / -edit curves / _Night Vision, Infrared, Vignette, lomo / -Pixelate, posterize, grain / -Color: Cross Process, Duo Tones, heat map, blue tint, green tint, red tint, invert color, black and white, Warhol, edge contrast, balance, shift, neon, emboss / -Sketch / -add and edit stamps, shapes / -Add and edit text / -you can also create and share slideshows. / -Another awesome feature is PiasR: you can choose from 100s of famous paintings and instantly blend the look right into your own photo. I’m not sure if I missed anything, but it is a great, fun, and very useful feature. I’ve been tinkering with it for hours. “So come and join me at: www.selectivecolors.com. All you have to use the flauntR editord is register. It’s quick … just fill in your email, and password, and you are ready to go.Let me know what you think of the photo editor and the selective Coloring slideshow. Also feel free to sign up for site updates and news. I hope you enjoy. For all other Red Bubblers, stop on by Selective Colors. / and feel free to use the photo editor for your art or any of the other useful resources. If you have selective colored photography of your own and have not yet signed up for our group, you can sign up here. It’s a fun and inspiring group. I like the little gif widget doohickey whatever that the lads have devised, but I couldn’t see a way that I could send it by email. Well, here’s something else that will do that job for me. / Nosing about on The Generator Blog I discovered the Slide Show Generator. Select a few pics from your gallery, then save the code. You can add that to facebook, myspace, all those sites (I mostly avoid them – call me old-fashioned), or you can send it via email to a friend. / They’ll receive a postcard with a couple of links. If they open “View Slide Show’, they’ll see your pictures in a steady progression, or, if they click Original View at top right, they’ll see the pics coming down as if tossed by hand. / Holding your mouse over a picture brings up the title. Just got home from a great night of comedy. Gainsborough is a fair distance from London, so we can forgive Norman and his crew for arriving a little late! The compere was Andrew O’Neill. Some of his humour went over my head, but I found most of it funny, and he seems like a nice guy! When Norman came on, we were asked to move closer, so me and Andy got front seats. Norman has a series of slides which goes paralell with his observational humour, and it was well worth the ticket price. Also got an autograph and a blurry photo of Andy with him taken from his phone. Against my daughter’s advice I left the camera at home thinking there wouldn’t be an opportunity to use it! PS. Norman was Holly the computer in Red Dwarf.
