Three Red Eared Slider Turtles (Trachemys scripta elegans or formerly Chrysemys scripta elegans) laying in a line on a log above a pool surrounded by green foliage
Baby red-eared sliders milling around in a pet store aquarium.
I was in Butterfly Farm Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia to gather some photos for my advertising assignment. And I was totally taken away by how the Red-eared Turtles were staring at the sky, as if there was something fascinating going on in the sky. Red-eared Turtles also known as Red-eared Sliders ( scientific name: Trachemys scripta elegans), native to the Southern United States. They are mass-produced in SE Asia for the pets market of the US and Europe.(Information provided by Thomas. Thank you for helping me to understand this species better.)

Life and Death
An exercise in dimension and division
Taken while canoeing in Juniper Springs Wilderness Preserve, North Central Florida. I believe this to be an “American Coot”. They can be seen in copious numbers sunning themselves on fallen trees or outcropping of rocks when the weather is right. I love to watch them scrambling over each other for the best spot in the sun. / / *Note of interest: Last shot of the day, because upon taking this, my canoe went sideways up against this very tree that the little turtle is sitting on, scaring him to death and tipping me into the water! My camera was saved by a miracle…I don’t know how I managed to keep it above water! Also from Juniper Springs Wilderness Preserve*

Who’s that little guy at the end of the log? He must be that Western-pond turtle Oregon is trying to save. Shot this picture at a pond near the Willamette River in Eugene, Oregon.
This Red-eared slider is getting ready to do what he does best at the Delta Ponds in Eugene, Oregon
not on the menu. We’ve had a bit of a warm up in Ohio so Lindybird & I took the opportunity to bike on the towpath trail in the Cuyahoga Valley National Park. the trail follows the route of an old shipping canal along the Cuyahoga River and there is a great diversity of wildlife and differing ecosystems as the trail meanders through the park. We spotted this little one gathering a bit of warmth on a log in the river. The name comes from the distinct red markings along the underside of the shell and from its distinctive manner of entry into the water.
LAST MONTH GOT LUCKEY AND FOUND THESE THREE SUNNING ON A LOG IN A CANAL IN LAKE WOOD PARK WHERE I LIVE IN FT PIERCE FLA. THEY ARE VERY SKIDISH, I USED THE SUN IN MY FAVOR SO THEY DID NOT SCARE WHEN I APPROACH THEM ONE OF MY TRICKS OF THE TRADE.
