If Only Tonight We Could Sleep ....... forever.
by Craig Shillington“*if only tonight we could sleep / in a bed made of…
if only tonight we could sleep / in a bed made of flowers / if only tonight we could fall / in a deathless spell / if only tonight we could slide / into deep black water / and breathe / and breathe… then an angel would come / with burning eyes like stars / and bury us deep / in his velvet arms and the rain would cry / as our faces slipped away / and the rain would cry don’t let it end… (click the lyrics to listen to the song) Today I received some sad news. My little Jordy man has Cancer again. :( I am at a point right now where I am very lost. Anyone that knows me well enough, will understand the bond I have with my Three Boys … but especially so with Jordy … my little Alien. When Jordy was about 4 years old, he got skin cancer in his ears. Something a lot of animals with white fur get. Luckily Kim and I got him to the Vet before it had a chance to spread and they cut it out. Since then, Jordy has been my no ears little Alien. The Ironic thing is that when Kim brought him home as a Present … I said he was the ugliest cat I had ever seen …. he is now the most beautiful thing I have had in my life. The vet has told me without Chemo, he probably has about 3 months to live … but that is with pain. :( I can’t afford the Chemo for him sadly. :( And even with the Chemo, the cancer is too far spread … it won’t cure him this time … just prolong his life. With a heavy heart I now need to make a decision on timing :( At some time soon I need to figure out that Jordy is suffering and allow him to be free of that, so he can forever watch over me. This will be one of the hardest things I will have done. I am going to share the next few months here …. some of this may not be nice, but it will help me too. I am going to miss …. this gorgeous Monkey on My Back so much!!!

Let me sleep damnit!!!

Warning… This little tale is written in the language I speak, frequent use of course language may offend some viewers Back in the days when Sunday morning lie ins were a right and not a priviledge (of course I am talking of BC… Before Children) I would thoroughly enjoy sleeping the morning away and surfacing mostly in time for lunch. For those of you that know me you will know that I value my sleep and do not take kindly to being woken before I am ready. Ok, BC I used to be a bloody sleep nazi ok? THERE! I admit it!! However there came a period in time when every single Sunday I was rudely awoken in the predawn hours – for that read anything before lunchtime – by various groups of religious zealots trying to tell me that if I didnt convert to their faith I would burn in the everlasting fiery pits of Hell – not really such a great threat, I’m sure with slothfulness being a sin should I make it to hell I WOULD AT LEAST GET A FUCKING SLEEP IN on a Sunday! Now… I don’t believe in religion but thats NOT to say I dont believe in God, and I dont necessarily have anything against anyone who does. I draw the line however when they come knocking at my door, with their children in tow (children who SHOULD still be in their pj’s watching Sunday morning cartoons) asking me if I have been bathed in the blood of Christ?! AAAAARRRRGGGHHHHHH!!! Its SUNDAY MORNING!!! You have woken me up, I havent even brushed my teeth or taken a shower and you want me to go skinny dipping in a pool of someone elses unsanitary blood? SHEESH!!! I mean for fucks sake! Even GOD had a day off when He was creating the world. And I quote ”...and on the seventh day he rested” Don’t know about you, but on my calendar the seventh day is… you guessed it …SUNDAY!!!! So… this went on for a while. I am sure there were several families in the area who drew up a roster just to make sure I wouldnt get my sleep in. Perhaps they thought they could wear me down with sleep deprivation – I dont know. My replies to them as I opened the door went from good … “I’m sorry, I have my own faith” and degenerated into really bad… “Oh for the love of all thats unholy… ITS SUNDAY! I AM SLEEPING!!” (sound of door slamming and potty mouth curses as I stumble back into bed) And still…. they came…. They even went so far as to plant a spy amongst our midst. While talking one Sunday afternoon out the front to our neighbour, who up until this time had seemed like a perfectly normal, well adjusted guy, hubby happened to mention his annoyance of our Sunday morning visitors…. Bad move… HE WAS ONE OF THEM!!! A SHEEP IN WOLVES CLOTHING!!! (and no that is NOT a typo…. think about it..lol) Ok… enough was enough… I was sleep deprived, and more than just a little pissed off. So the next Sunday morning I lay in wait for my pre- dawn visitors. Only THIS time, I had company. At the time I had the honour of sharing my life with a beautiful girl by the name of Bundy. She was a Rottweiler x Staffy and a more lovely girl you never did meet. She had unfortunately inherited my proclivity for sleeping in though. Up until now she had been quite content to stay snuggled with hubby in bed while I went to deal with out nuisance knockers. But now she was ready to leap to our defence as it was. So this particular Sunday morning, Bundy and I lay in wait. The knock came… I grabbed her two inch thick leather studded collar, whispered “sick ‘em” and opened the door… Imagine, if you will, being confronted by a vision from Hades clad in Tweety Bird pyjamas, tired red eyes blazing, Medusa hair flying and her very own Hound from Hell, risen onto her back paws so that she was nearly as tall as her mistress, snarling…growling …spitting flecks of foam onto the flyscreen… To this day I am AMAZED that they didnt take me up on my invitation to “come on inside for a cuppa, and pray… tell me the words of our Lord…”

Could I be anymore disgusting when I say, why haven’t I sold anything yet? Cmon seriously, tell me, which leg do I have to stroke? Who do I have to send a virtual wink? I just want the satisfaction of selling something, and putting away money towards my vacation (which will result in more pictures for redbubble!) So – what do you want from me? I ask! What do you want me to show you through my camera? I’d really like to know, so I can show you (and hopefully you can buy!) ;) Well enough of the horrible side of me! Let me tell you. I’ve had a lovely week. Aside from working heaps! It’s been fabulous! I wish this week could be the same! My lover boy was lovely this week too. H, brought me out to lunch and we had a splendid day at a Belgium cafe where we drank Belgium beer and ate deep fried Camembert for lunch and had delicious Belgium waffles for dessert. There I also learnt that he is quite the avid photographer too! I wish more days were just like that.. But that involves money, and time which sometimes is quite hard to find. Well, it’s late. I hope you’re all well.. AND BUY from me! I’ll even throw in a free body part of your choice..;)

Holy moley green guacamole things have been busy lately! Lots of work and lots of family stuff has made it a wee bit difficult to get around to putting up any work or commenting on anyones work, or even singing into Redbubble lately. Add all of that to the fact that I’ve been having a lot of trouble sleeping and you’ve got a recipe for disaster more annoying than a weekend long marathon of Ben Affleck movies. (Which, as you might imagine is AMAZINGLY annoying!) Anyway, hopefully I’m entering a bit of a downspell and hopefully that’ll mean throwing something up on here more often. Hopefully. I don’t like making promises, so we’ll just stick with hopefully. Hopefully is good. Hopefully leaves the door open for failure, and since failure is a very real possibility at this point I think I’m making the right choice in leaving it open. While I was away I sold a couple shirts (many thanks to whomever bought those) and fellow Bubbler ROBIN MONROE who is a beck of a talented painter, bought a card featuring my SAILING THROUGH HOKUSAI art. Thanks Robin and I hope you like it. Before I wrap this up, my wife has been snapping some pictures of me early in the morning and we think that we’ve discovered the reason I’m not getting any sleep. The stupid cats seem to think my head is their bed. (Don’t give me any guff on the black and white stripped quilt. I’ve had it since I was a kid, it’s ugly as sin, it needs to be thrown away, I’ve heard it all from my wife more than once. I’ll tell you the same thing I tell her…it’s not going anywhere. That’s right, I’m a thirty year old Linus. Deal with it.) Steve! /

Well like a few other bubblers I’m very excited about the opening of Gallery 26 Milsons Point in just 9 days! The gallery is really starting to look great – from the pics I’ve seen that is – I’ve been busy building a website! So busy in fact that now I have to run around and find a place to do framing for me – FAST. www.gallery26milsonspoint.com / / www.myspace.com/gallery26milsonspoint Stop by the websites – have a look around, and report any bugs to me :) They’re still really under construction, so I don’t expect them to be perfect yet! And if you’re on MySpace be sure to send us a friend request. Every artist in the show has a bio page on the gallery26milsonspoint.com site. If you’re an artist participating in the show, and think “hey – she hasn’t given me a page! What’s up?” Well…. that’s because you haven’t sent in your art submission yet! Send them in asap! (yeah, I can hear Sarah moaning now – I haven’t sent mine in either!) / / /

On how to vomit effectively

Prepare yourself the night before by drinking a mixture of beer and red wine along with copious amounts of Vietnamese food such as beef and black bean, spring rolls, chicken with cashews and vegetables, wontons, seafood stirfry, fried icecream. Follow this by visiting a pub afterwards and drinking even more beer and wine. Upon exiting pub, go directly home and to sleep. Do not attempt to drink any water as this may affect your vomiting ability altogether. Sleep the required number of hours. This will be soporific sleep. You will dream lucidly. You will sweat. You will shiver. The cat will drink out of the glass of water on your bedside table. Yes, the same glass of water that you didn’t drink. It might then decide to sleep on your head and half suffocate you, but in an affectionate way that doesn’t really bother you in your drunken slumber. The morning sun glares against the flimsy curtains. Filling your room with 7-11esque neon bright light that infuriates your sleep encrusted eyeballs. You turn over, burying your head in the pillow and feel your stomach groan and wobble. The hot sweat starts so you unburden yourself of your socks and long-johns. Drifting back to sleep the saliva drools onto your pillow, forming a wet patch that eventually soaks your ear and forces you to turn over the pillow, only to find that the other side is also drool/sweat soaked and makes your hair stick together, this is the start and cause of bed hair. Now you know. Your bladder bulges and reminds your brain that you’ve been drinking all night and forgotten to pee. It forces you giddily out of bed and you stumble down the hall to the bathroom to relieve yourself. Hazy memories of the night before coagulate in your brain. You recall that there’s a yellow bucket out on the front lawn. Gingerly you open the front door and tip-toe out into the crisp morning dew. Bucket retrieved and you’re back in bed quickly defrosting your toes. The waiting begins. You lie close to the edge of the bed. You hang your head over the edge and stare endlessly into the bucket. Drifting off to sleep as some preliminary drool siphons into the bucket. Waves of nausea wash over and you know that you’re close. Spitting into the bucket seems to help. Positioning your body, you prepare for the evacuation. A nervous dry reach and then finally — finally it comes. HUUUUUURRRRRRGHHHHH. Bright purple and gushing, slopping into the bucket. The acrid stench fills your nostrils and invokes the second coming. Splattering into the first comes the second wave. It’s thicker and stronger this time. Finally, relief. Wait. No — a third expulsion and your stomach is empty. Your brain instinctively wants to make sure and a few spitty dry reaches follow. Your quickly sobering brain soon realises there’s not much left and leaves you to wallow in your filth. It’s over. You’ve done it. You’ll be ok now. You peer into the bucket and identify some undigested broccoli. Damn that tasted good the first time. Now, swimming in the purpley frothing juice of beer and wine you think better than to taste it a second time. Or do you?

I’ve been gone for a while. (I like how I say that like anyone noticed…sigh…I need to stop deluding myself.) Things have been exceptionally busy lately, both professionally and personally. Hopefully things will be slowing down over the next few weeks because, to be quite honest, I’m a little tired. Scratch that and make it a lot tired. In fact, I’m so tired that I’m falling asleep right at this very instant in front of my computer. o;hara;ksdffff;qerhfer;h; Oops, that was my head slamming into the keyboard. See, told you I was tired. Plus, now I have a sore head. G’night. Steve~

Help, please! / I am addicted to Red Bubble – since I started using the sight, my sleep has suffered and the dark circles under my eyes have grown!. How do I stop this – I have always suffered from lack of will power and although every day I tell myself I’m going to stay away, I find myself back on RB again. I love it but know I need help! Does the novelty wear off? Any suggestions….? / Lisa xx

Its 6am and I am supposed to be off to castlemain with my partner for the weekend today. Trouble is i got hardly any sleep as came home early from work with stomach problems. I swear, the pain was worse than when i gave birth to my kids. I am struggling to get dressed and pack my bag which is the easy part, but getting my pooch Ziggy ready and in the car is gonna be the hard bit. I was so looking forward to a relaxing weekend out in the countryside taking photos, Now i doubt it will be relaxing at all and poor Phil will have to put up with me being grumpy.

Everything flows from a state not unlike that of the deepest sleep. Rhythms slow down, to a point where it seems that everything has become still. Dreams and reality collide, or rather, they mesh to form this strangely altered and beautiful existence. No one knows whether we live the dream or dream our lives anymore. I’ve found that the world to me is but a waking dream. Everything starts off so slowly and then we’re rushed. Rushed to the plot, the confict the climax and then we’re swayed by the eventual fall, the end. We hear ourselves talking, motivating us to take one step forward, or perhaps a step back. But never do we feel quite in control, as if we’re on the outside looking in. Have you ever thought back to your memories? How do you see them, through your own eyes, or are you looking at yourself from somewhere above? It’s strange how we make the choice, to live or watch. It’s the way we are I guess. I’ve been thinking a lot about the end. Not death really, just the end. The end of everything. I never really saw it as death, but just as a resting period before things awaken. It’s like we are all drifting into the quiet place, and when we are aware again, we realize just what our lives had truly been; a fog. A thick fog that only dissipates when the sunlight is strong enough to shatter it’s hold. I guess I’m waiting for the sunlight. One so strong that everything becomes illuminated.

How many people think happiness is over rated? Could you do without happiness or is it something you think is pretty good when you experience it? Knowing how good it is when you experience it, how much of your life do you spend, nay, live being truly happy? Does happiness sound like hard work? How many times a day do you do something you know from experience is not going to benefit you tomorrow, but you do it anyway, because you feel like it now. Can’t be bothered to make the effort. How happy does that make you? I’m not bringing this up to accuse anyone. If you point one finger at someone else, three fingers point back straight at you (I wish I’d come up with that myself, but I have to credit Roz Lawler’s talks for that gem of wisdom). I am, in fact, pointing a few fingers at myself right now. The reason for this is I have been delaying my happiness. How do I know? Well, for a big fat obvious reason, I haven’t been my usual happy self for the last 2-3 weeks until recently. Those of you who know me, know I usually do one hundred thousand things at once to find true bliss. Now of course, if we rush through life, we don’t enjoy those experiences when they come. We do need time to reflect and appreciate. That’s one thing. However, there is also such a thing as living in the moment. Living intuitively. That does not mean making no plans or without budgeting etc. I usually maintain that balance quite well. I get fully into things, achieve mountains of things and occasionally need a good time out. I got to that point awhile ago. You think you can go gogogogo forever at the pace you do and suddenly, there is no interest in it whatsoever. All those seeming ‘demands’ get too much and you have to walk away. I thought I’d begin training for a hard and heavy road of hormones and a slower pace of life, in preparation for motherhood. Oh god! There is always room for change, and nothing wrong with a time of introspection. There also comes a time when that much thinking is just excuse for not doing. All those fears of what might be, what others might think, might do weigh upon you too seriously. Time to live and do again. When you begin to embrace those thoughts of what might be good o do, you sow a seed of happiness and trust. That idea was good. I did it. And it turned out ok. I handled everything I needed to. Life was the answer, and whatever needed to be changed, I did. And now, what next? So what have I been doing/meaning to do and doing? I’m getting there. I’ve been meaning to AT LEAST enquire about pilates. No relief is found if you don’t DO. I haven’ enrolled yet, but will. I will go to bed earlier. Yes, I did do that for awhile last year. I ‘had to’. I’d always known it was a secret to feeling more energised. But when I finally ‘had to’, I really noticed it worked wonders. I have more to say on this, but that’s most obvious and enough for now. I’m going to bed. Early. Ish! Good night!
