  • WILD & FREE / / South Georgia is one amazing island that you all must try to get to, if you don’t mind four days in rough seas on a boat that is!!! But it is truly worth it…. This image was taken at a place called “Salisbury Plain”, where there are approximately 250 000 penguins! The sound as you come over the hill is tremendous, not to mention the smell!! Nearly forgot to say that they are king penguins. / / (South Georgia – on an Antarctic trip) / / / / / / / / / / / / / / / / / / / / / / / / / / / / / / / / / / / / / / / / / / / /

  • Hmmm, I might explain this a little, as it`s just a bit of fun really I`ve been working a lot recently, probably too much to be healthy.. Maybe it’s taking it’s toll on my brain or something. So as I was working away last night, it was late, and I had some Bob Dylan on in the background to try to keep me focussed. / I`d struck a bit of a wall, and “tambourine man” was playing.. I found myself responding to Bob`s request for a song. “Sorry Bob, but I think that`s enough songs for one evening.. don`t you?” Then this image was in my head, and I stayed up another bunch of hours doing this. So there you go…

  • This cute creature is a Viscacha. A bit like a big rabbit with a long tail, they live amongst the rocks in high altitude regions of Peru, Bolivia and Chile. He/She (not sure which) is a Mountain Viscacha, a member of the Rodent family. This one is a wild animal, free to do as it pleases, but he’s quite happy living amongst the rocks around the Conaf Ranger Station at the Salar de Surire National Monument in far northern Chile. / This is a very remote part of the world and very few people would pass this way, so I think the Viscacha have learned to tolerate the human intrusion. / They’re diurnal, but their diet consists of grass, not very nutritious grass, so they spend most of their time asleep. When I found him he was asleep. I had him framed in the camera, thinking that he has to move eventually. And he did. He stretched out his tiny arms and yawned and then promptly fell back to sleep. / It was all over in a second and I had just enough time for one shot. Canon 5D Mark II / An old 100-300mm Canon lens at 300mm / ISO 250 / 1/500 second at f/5.6 / Handheld / Captured in Raw / I’ve introduced some vignetting around the edges and applied a curve in Photoshop CS4 but otherwise the image is as taken.
