Bar Beach part of the beautiful Sapphire Coast The Bega Valley Shire is located at the south-eastern extremity of New South Wales approximately half way between Sydney and Melbourne. / The Shire’s coastal fringe extends from Wallaga Lake (Bermagui) in the north to Cape Howe and the Victorian border in the south. / Collectively, this 106-kilometre section of coastline forms the beautiful Sapphire Coast. Inland, higher peaks of the Great Dividing Range give way to rolling hills, and numerous rivers and streams.

Nani-Ba-Zhu ~ Mother Earth [ Kanza ] Alaska Sunset Reflections Chena River Lakes One of my personal favourites from my collection: / Chi-Hoota-Wei ~ Many Fires, One Great Light ~ Alaska Copyright © Sharon Mau 2009 / All Rights Reserved Sky reflections on Chena Lakes / Alaska North Star Titles and quote commentaries are Lodge names and translations of Order of the Arrow Insignia ~ Chi-Hoota-Wei ~ Many Fires, One Great Light ~ Links to websites with more information on First Nations ~ American Native Tribes I was captivated by the dreamy spherical look of the clouds and the beautiful soft pastel colours as they drifted across the sky on the horizon toward the sunset. ~ Chena River Lakes is a beautiful recreational Alaska State Park in the Tanana River Valley near North Pole Alaska. “Konza; or Kanza ~ The Kansa/Kaw Tribe, also known as “the wind people” The tribe originally lived along the lower Kansas River in villages consisting of conical-shaped lodges. The Kaw Tribe, formerly known as the Kansa (or Konza) at one time stretched over 20 million acres across northern Kansas into Nebraska and Missouri. In 1825, a treaty was signed by the Kanza Tribe in which the Tribe “agreed” to sell a large portion of its land base and relocated to a reservation near present day Topeka, Kansas. The Kansa lived a semi-nomadic life, depending primarily on buffalo hunting and some farming for their food. They obtained social prestige and honor only in combat, and their chiefs were chosen for bravery and wisdom. The culture of the Kansa was that of the Plains people of the central United States. Typical of the Plains culture area, adolescent boys underwent a puberty rite known as the vision quest-a period of isolation meant to invoke supernatural images. Religious beliefs were centered around spirits associated with nature. Highly developed burial customs were followed; the body was placed in a shallow grave with food, clothing, and other needs for the afterlife. By 1840 the lands of the Kansa had been acquired by the United States government and incorporated into the so-called Indian Territory, to which many Native Americans were being removed. Chena (pronounced Chay – na) Lake Recreation Area is a 260 lake covering more than 4 miles of the fresh water of the beautiful Chena River and also fed by the glacial waters of the mighty Tanana River. / / With over 2,100 acres to explore and enjoy, Chena Lake Recreation Area has activities for all visitors. Chena Lake Recreation Area covers over 2,000 acres and has two distinct personalities; the Lake Park, with a 260 acre lake the River Park, covering 4 miles of the Chena River. Lake Park hosts three volleyball courts, one horseshoe pit, a playground, multiple day use picnic sites with tables and fire rings, two covered pavilions, two changing room/warm up buildings, two designated swimming areas with sandy beaches, a boat rental, two fishing docks (one handicap accessible), a lake boat launch, potable water stations and restrooms. River Park is stretched along 4 miles of the south bank of the Chena River and hosts one volleyball court, one horseshoe pit, one covered pavilion, one changing room/warm up building, a 4.5 kilometer self guided nature trail, river boat launch, potable water stations, restrooms, and multiple day use picnic sites with tables and fire rings. During the winter months Chena Lake Recreation Area offers groomed classical cross-country ski trails with a 2km, 4.5km, and 7km loop as well as a multi-use trail with a 3.8, 5.5, 6.5, 9.5 and 12 mile loops for snow machining, ski-joring, dog mushing, walking, running, etc. Chena Lake also offers four ice-fishing houses No motors are permitted on the lake, only kayaks, canoes and paddle type boats. It is a beautiful place to photograph clouds and sky reflections and also a winter wonderland when the lake freezes. The lake is fed by the runoff from the Peyto Glacier (this glacier is part of the Wapta Icefield) which lies about 5 km to the south of the lake this gives the lake a magnificent blue colour in the summer months due to the mineral content. This is one of the most scenic places in the Rocky Mountains. At the summit of Bow Pass (2088 m.) on the Icefields Parkway is the path to the Peyto Lake overlook. From the parking lot you walk up for about 400 m. in a steep but easy paved trail to a lookout platform that provides a great view of the lake. If you travel the Icefield Parkway, you must not miss this viewpoint
