Sunflower Sunset What can I even say about this shot…....the sky just really cooperated with me when I was shooting this, one of the most gorgeous sunsets I had ever seen. I ventured out in the field but then as I did I stepped back, and realized that maybe I good overall shot would be god as well. I wasn’t alone either, somewhere out in that field are several other photogs…..I could see the flashes and a couple people who also had their tripod set up . I just sat in awe, taking all this in, it was almost to perfect a scene….and I was just sitting there with my mouth open saying aloud “You have got to be kiddin’ me!!! Thank you Lord!” lol So I went to town and kept shooting, venturing out later into the field, and just kept firing shot off after shot. At Day’s End As the sun goes down over the front range mountains of Denver, Colorado, the Sunflowers turn, in anticipation of the sun coming back up in the morning. Photographed in a field where all you can see for miles and miles is Sunflowers….billions of Sunflowers. An entire sea of yellow and gold….caught in my lens for a fleeting instant, where the whole world was at peace…. An exhibition piece from a collection of works that revolved around the themes of magic, nature and storytelling. The text translates as “I am the beautiful flower, I am the sun’s tear” which is from an ancient poem “The song of Amergin”. The work is loosely based upon this poem, although influences come from a wide variety of cultures. 50.5×40.5cm
...the sunflowers go to sleep I found this field of sunflowers in Lower Austria near Drosendorf in the so called Waldviertel. Most of the sunflower fields have already been harvested, but this one was still standing and the flower were in full bloom. driving by on my way “home” i simply had to stop and take this photo and enjoy the view. there are some beautiful moments in life… 3 exposures @f9,1 / 1/12s, 1/12s minus2, 1/12s plus2

Hand drawn and digitally coloured. One of my favourite shows is Outrageous Fortune, and one of the characters Pascalle West has an incredible storyline about being a kind of new age guru who tries to change everyone’s lives. She gives everyone raw food and pep talks, so I decided to create motivational posters for her :D / This work is licensed under a Creative Commons Attribution-No Derivative Works 2.5 Australia License
This took me quite some time. It started out as a sunflower fairy who I incorporated into the design of the moon. I then had the idea of creating and adding another ‘being’ to sit curled up and gazing at the stars. All total artistic fantasy and I so enjoyed doing it!
Captured in rural Boulder County, Colorado….let me just say this was honest to God unbelievable to photograph. I had to handhold these shots because of my bum knee and well, the lightning was going crazy right above me. But I managed to get some dang nice shots off. This being one of them. I am really happy with this one, I debated about a square crop, but in the end I figured why the heck not, nothing ventured, nothing gained, right folks? Minolta 50mm f1.7 Lens / ND4 and CPL / Lightroom & PS I hope ya all like it! / —-John
Rural northern Boulder County, Colorado Honest to God above, this was utterly amazing….I can’t really find the wards to describe the whole scene to you all but I will try my best. I had to handhold this, along with the other shots to come, my knee is totally kaput so using a tripod was pretty much out of the question, however that isn’t the only reason…as we were shooting last evening, the lightning was all over the place, and well there were times when I wanted to grab it and try, but thought better of it lol Tripods make for great Lightning conductors! lol The clouds were just insane, and I mean really crazy, this storm went severe dropping reports of funnel clouds to the north east of us and hail as well. It passed over our heads, but sure made for some utterly incredible atmospheric shots! So you take that, a Sunflower field the size of a small state, the sunset, a country road, and the foothills and mountains as a backdrop, and friends, you have quite a scene you will NEVER forget! Hope ya all like it! / —-John Minolta 5D / Minolta 18-70mm / CPL & ND4
