  • May 2008. It was unusually hot that week in the Bay Area. Temperatures reached 100s inland, 90s where we live. Along with the heat, came an unusual fiery display in the sky. On our right, a bit obscured with houses and trees is the Oakland Mormon Temple. Thanks to my husband who held me steady as I stood on top of our railing, I was able to get a zoom shot. Soon I hope to come up closer and spend an early evening photographing this beautiful temple. Canon 30D, 70-200mm. / Handheld. Shot in RAW. No post processing other than crop, resizing and re-saving in JPG.

  • The view across Sandhaven beach towards the Lees in South Shields from Tynemouth Harbour Wall. This little boat bobbed on the turning tide, watching over it;s nets and lobster pots, waiting for the return of it’s crew. This shot was converted in to black and white to bring out the way the light kept breaking through illuminating the bay. Best viewed large

  • Seaford Bay from Newhaven: East Sussex, UK Camera Nikon D700 with 24-120mm Lense. HDR created with 8 exposures from one RAW file. / This was actually a terrible picture rescued because of the information that a RAW file records. It was shot into the light, and was very contrasty. After adjusting the exposure settings in Lightroom, 4 stops either side, I exported them to Photomatrix Pro3, and after adjusting the settings, this is what came out. I know this could also have been achieved in Photoshop, but think of all the time saved. I’ve treid Photomatrix with three exposures, but didn’t like the colour shifts it produced. Taking more exposures helps the software to decide and produces much less dramatic effects. / The original picture is uploaded for information so that others can see what can be achieved. Hope this helps someone. Don. /

  • Star trails are very interesting. You can see many things with them. The rotation of the Earth can be seen in the circular trails of the stars. Your position in latitude can be calculated by noteing the point about which the stars seem to revolve. This is the point directly above the pole, and its location in degrees above the horizon corresponds to your latitude. The colour of the trails can tell you roughly the surface temperature of the star. The orange trails are stars between 4-6 thousand degree C, while the blue ones can be higher than 20,000 C. / In this image the bright trail is Jupiter.(just take my word for it ok). and you will notice that it is almost a straight line rather than curved. This means that the stars are closer to being overhead at the equator as stars there move direct from east to west. After the star trails are straight you may notice that the trails will curve again but in the oposite direction. This is due to the stars in the North revolve about the north pole which is below our horizon. The length of the star trail can help determine the length of the exposure. which in this case is about 20 minutes. / 38 images of 30seconds with 1 second between exposures has made this image. Shot with a Nikon D300 using the 11-18mm Tamron set at 11mm. I opened the apeture to allow maximum light so it was shot at f4.5. The ISO was set at 800. / Shot at Coonabarabran from a friends front yard. / Enjoy the night sky…

  • A photo taken of the Golden Gate bridge from the southern area, San Francisco side. It was a beautiful day. you know, LA gave me a bad taste in my mouth 20+ yrs ago and I never wanted to set foot in California again but work brought me to Petaluma and I must say I love northern California. The scenery is beautiful, the people are friendly. I met many people while out shooting and I told them all about redbubble. I hope to meet some of them here on day. I wish I had more time in the area, but I am heading home (florida) on sept 11th. But it looks like I will be going to Barbados here in a week or so. So I hope to bring some more wonderful photos for more to enjoy. was featured in $$☻Get Art Promoted☺$$ Camera Model: Canon EOS 50D / Shutter speed: 1/640 sec / Aperture: 5.0 / Exposure mode: Tv / Flash: Off / Metering mode: Evaluative / Drive mode: Single frame shooting / ISO: 100 / Lens: EF28-135mm f/3.5-5.6 IS USM / Focal length: 28mm / AF mode: One-shot AF / Image quality: Raw / White balance: Auto / Color space: sRGB
