Yesterday I saw that it was National Drawing Day so I quickly picked up some brown stationary paper, a black chalk pencil and started to draw a quick picture from some old reference that I had found. Well, this picture soon grew from a sketch to a rough pastel. Still quicker and more sketchy that my usual pastel pictures, but now not acceptable to the Drawing Day Challenge. Will now have to wait until next year. But, I think I have accidentally found a rough style that I can have fun with.

But sometimes, something so bad happens that a terrible sadness is carried with it and the soul can’t rest. Then sometimes, just sometimes, the crow can bring that soul back to put the wrong things right. Peace, Sylvia Lizarraga
I wanted to share this little “soft” sketch with you. / Most of my artwork gets very tight but I usually start with loose ideas… rough sketches of shapes, concepts and ideas. This is just one of many sketches that I did earlier this year while I was getting myself accustom to moving a pencil or pastel around again on a fresh clean piece of paper. It was a process of re-training… waking up the ol’ muscle memory and getting my artist’s eyes to see again. 2009 has been a fantastic year of re-discovery. I am excited to be an artist again. This is a Pastel pencil on soft blue paper.
