  • I think…as photographers we can all relate to this scene. We’ll all LIVE until we get that final shot that we REALLY like…and ‘even then’...we won’t rest until we have that BEST shot, right? LOL I saw this ensemble in an antique store window in Brentwood, CA. I did some cropping, lighting and other bits of photo editing to get it this way. This is one of five different versions. :) PLEASE ‘view larger’.

  • well I’ve been really busy in the darkroom with this semesters photography students. We’ve been building pinhole cameras out of all sorts of things and then printing out the negatives in the wet darkroom. Then these images will be scanned and outputted as 1 metre square digital image. So from the most basic form of photographic capture to the top end of digital output…. it’s a fabulous project and the students really love it to bit…. So far in the group we have cameras built out of nappybuckets, toilet roll holders, letter boxes, teapots and one intrepid fellow has made a reasonably viable camera out of a car wheel….. no joke it’s a sight to behold as he rolls in around the campus. Anyway I usually just stick to making my cameras out of old photographic paper boxes and they seem to work well for me. The image here is a double exposed pinhole shot of a lifesized human skeleton that the students use in the drawing and painting classes. The aperture…. or the pinhole…. or the lens if you like …. is a massive .5 of one millimetre. The exposure time was 15 seconds on a bright clear sunny day. The negative is a whole sheet of 10×8 inch blackandwhite photo paper and that has been contact printed on to another 10×8 inch sheet of paper and then I’ve scanned both negative and positive and placed them onto the one page so I can upload them here together. So volia….. pinhhole photography rules…...:)

  • I know I’m 30+, but I’m still impressed beyond words at the patterns in nature that we see and don’t notice. / Till I tried this little back-light experiment – I really didn’t appreciate the intricate network in these leaves. / Felt that B&W really focussed attention on the pattern. Taken with Nikon D80 / 105mm AF-S VR Macro / SB-800 In the Fine Art of Photography Group.

  • The Stench of Death As the rescue party looked on at the most gruesome sight they could only imagine what the Huntress must have endured. “We’re too late!” the Warrior exclaimed. “If only we could have got here in time,” another said under their breath. As everyone in the party either cried or were picturing the little Huntress in happier times in their minds; no one noticed the huge dark shadow looming far above them. Then as a big whoosh of wind fell upon them everyone yelled in unison, “The Witch!!” …… (Continued) The fifth in the Huntress Series used PhotoShop CS, PaintShop Pro 8, Poser 6, Painter X. • I painted this over the past two days. Size, 30×40” or 101.6×76.2cm. / Predominantly an acrylic on canvas. • / Édouard Manet, 23 January 1832 – 30 April 1883, was a French painter. One of the first nineteenth century artists to approach modern-life subjects, he was a pivotal figure in the transition from Realism to Impressionism. / His early masterworks The Luncheon on the Grass and Olympia engendered great controversy, and served as rallying points for the young painters who would create Impressionism. Today these are considered watershed paintings that mark the genesis of modern art. This is basically a cinema 4D render; just added some visual elements in postwork to enhance the whole atmosphere; original is a full color render; it was just at the last moment that I decided to tone it down. / (CINEMA 4D is a commercial, cross-platform, high-end 3-D graphics application, produced by MAXON Computer, Germany.)

  • Tree Skeletons shot at Dawn, in Yellowstone National Park, Wyoming, USA, reflected in a pool. I shot this before the sun broke through the mist, as I liked the blueness emphasising the coldness – there was a few degrees of frost that morning. / The image I processed from a RAW file, I felt was a little plain, so I gave it a touch of Orton, which drew out the dead tree silhouettes. Still not happy, I added a texture, to enhance the fog, not too much, since I didn’t want to spoil the ‘soft’ feel of the image. / I can recall the quietness of the early morning as I stood in awe of Mother Nature’s magic ! Shot on my Canon Eos 40D, mounted on tripod, f23, 1/60 sec, / no exposure compensation, the meter read the scene correctly, auto wb, RAW file processed in Adobe RAW, then in CS3, Orton applied with reduced opacities, and a texture, downloaded for free off the internet someplace, applied with discretion, by again reducing opacities etc. SEE MORE OF MY USA SET ….
