  • Photo taken late afternoon as the sun was setting… hence the sunset shadows. Here’s my boy Kane doing what he loves most!! Skateboarding is almost an obsession for him. He skates at least 4 times a week either at the local school or at the local bowl with his Daddy (his Daddy is right back into Skateboarding after 15 years). At just 4 he can already push off and confidently ride a skateboard. And loves his Daddy to swing him from side to side standing on the deck inside the big skate bowls. / Quite Adorable. ◘◘◘◘◘◘◘◘◘◘◘◘◘◘◘◘◘◘◘◘◘◘◘◘◘◘◘◘◘◘◘◘◘◘◘◘◘◘◘◘◘◘◘◘◘ Featured In Children Power of Raw Emotion Group / Featured in Colour Me A Rainbow Group / Featured in First Things Group / Featured in Outsiders Group / Featured in Family Unlimited Group FOURTH IN THE CHILDREN POWER OF RAW EMOTION CHALLENGE / .

  • It was quite long after sunset before the last skaters had left the other evening at Kinderdijk. What remained were the silhouettes of the 18th-century windmills standing out against a beautiful evening sky. For those of you who do not know about the specific role of these windmills in such places as Kinderdijk, just the following. As wind was the only power to drive a mill in the Netherlands before the age of steam and electricity, it was used for all sorts of mills, corn-mills, sawing-mills and waterpumping-mills. The mills at Kinderdijk were such pump-mills, used to pump and keep the low-lying polderland dry. You needed quite a lot of such wind-mills for that purpose in certain places such as here at Kinderdijk. In most cases only a few of these mills have survived. At Kinderdijk you can still find an extraordinary high number within a small area, i.e. 19 mills – it is this sight which makes Kinderdijk one of the touristic hotspots of the Netherlands and has secured its place as a world heritage site. While electric pumps have taken over the function of these mills generally, in some places they are restored to their original function, as a new and very old way of using energy in a natural way. Few people actually realize that in case of a really long-lasting power failure we would all get wet feet in most of the western and northern parts of the Netherlands. More windmills needed badly! • This is my tribute to Muntazer al-Zaidi. The legendary journalist who threw his shoe at George W Bush during his farewell visit to Iraq. Clearly it is based on Banksy’s “Flower Chucker” stencil which is based on a photo from the 1968 riots in Paris. I’ve tried to keep it faithful to both Banksy and Muntazer by illustrating his head as close as possible to the original press conference image, in the style of “Flower Thrower”. I also illustrated the shoe to fit his hand just nicely and added a bit of definition to the fingers. Love to know what you think. Good riddance George Dubbaya. Muntazer al-Zaid may be the thrower, but you certainly are the tosser. / / / / / / /

  • My first Twin Lens Reflex camera arrived today wOOt wOOt!! A lovely little 1940’s Kodak Brownie Reflex in beautiful condition. So what did I do? I proceed to pull it apart and then wrap 100mph tape and cardboard around it to create my light blocking contraption so I could start experimenting with TtV photography!! As you do ;) Sorry Great Aunt Gladys! I didn’t break it though, just removed a little bit ;) It is waaaaay more challenging than I thought it would be, and I think I may have developed an ebaying-for-tlr-cameras addiction in the last week but the results – when you get it right – are totally worth it, so all things considered I might stick with this for a bit ;)
