Since we introduced auto-detection of file size, some of you will have found that not all your artwork can be sold. Though this may be frustrating, we feel it is important for both artists + customers, since it ensures all images for sale can be turned into high quality prints. If your images aren’t high enough resolution to be sold, you can now replace existing images with bigger versions. Plus, you won’t lose any comments! Just go to MyBubble, and view the work in your Portfolio. Also, we will soon be introducing smaller products (e.g. art postcards, and greeting cards). These will have a lower file size requirement. So hang in there!

Cards C6 folded, C5 open. C6 is 114mm by 162mm (4 1/2in by 6 1/3in) / C5 is 229mm by 162mm (9in by 6 1/3in) T-Shirts Women’s T-Shirts Classic Girl is our young women’s line. Sizing is always controversial when it comes to women’s tees, so please excuse our directness. Classic Girl is not a “junior’s” line. It is designed for women of all ages who desire a youthful fit. Because our fabrics are stretchy (especially our baby rib, which has a stretch factor of over 100%), each size can fit a wide range of women. When Classic Girl T-shirts are to be used to promote an event, our Medium/One Size (indicated by M/OS) is suggested, as it fits approximately 80% of women. Unisex/Men’s T-Shirts Standard American is our unisex line. Most contemporary T-shirts are sized for the Boomer Generation (former hippies who are now in the “relaxed mode”). Our Standard American T-shirts are sized for two categories: men of all ages who desire a youthful fit and women of all ages who do not desire the form-fitting look of Classic Girl, but refuse to wear the oversized, unshapely T-shirts of the other leading brands. The Standard American line is designed in the same way T-shirts were in the ‘70s and ‘80s, when the Boomers were younger. Wall Art RedBubble has three size windows: Small (8 by 12 inches), medium (12 by 18 inches) and large (16 by 24 inches). If an image is uploaded to the site that doesn’t have a 2:3 aspect ratio we fit it to these size windows and take up as much of the window as possible. For example, a small 4:5 aspect ratio image is 8 by 10 inches. When an image is printed with a border add 1 inch (top and side) and 2 inches (bottom) to get the final product dimensions. When an image is framed add 2.5 inches on all sides (plus the width of the frame) to get the final product dimensions. Posters RedBubble posters are available in three sizes, with a maximum print area of A2, A1 or A0 View all my INFO’s

Hi guys now that I have the time and I have changed a few of my first t-shirt’s – just size and position of the image. I was so excited to put my work up I did not really think to much about what I would wear etc and my designs do not need to be so big and in ya face, I notice when I look at t-shirts I sometimes wish the artist did not make the image so big, so I made a few adjustments in mine. / I hope you all still think they are cute! / bye

Morning all, I just wanted to mention that there are no kids shirts for sale at the moment on RB. I have had customer feedback that the womens’ T-shirts are a great option for 5 yrs and up. / The womens’ small fits a 4 to 7 yr old (depending on the kid) and the womens’ t-shirt is actually just like the unisex one, just a slimmer fit and I think a bit more stretchy. / Anyway just thought I’d share the info. / Thanks, happy days!!

Many people would like to see an extended size range be made available for Redbubble tshirts. The current women’s sizes fit a snug 14-16, whilst the unisex sizes for men fit the same size range due to the waist size on the shirt being the same size as the 14-16 women’s chest. I would like Redbubble to conduct a survey of its 26,000 customers to see what sizes they would like to print on. This would benefit both them in terms of wholesale buying and ourselves in terms of being able to sell to friends and family members beyond size 16/XXXL. In the meantime, help us win the management over by stating your size, and what sizes you’d like to sell in the comments below. Thanks Jodes / Size 24 women / I’d like sizes 16-26 in women’s sizes made available, or at least to 5XL unisex/men shirts.

I need help here guys. I need to improve the printable quality of my pics, I may be doing something wrong and I do not know what! I have a Panasonic FZ30, 420 optical zoom, 8mpx. I have set my camera at the maximum= / Aspect ratio : 4.3 / Pict.Size : 8M (3264×2448 pixels) / Quality : fine (low compression) I have 3 Aspect ratio choises: 4.3, 3.2, 16.9 / I have 5 Pict. Size choices : 8M, 5M(EZ), 3M(EZ), 2M(EZ), 1M(EZ) / I have 4 quality options: TIFF, Fine(low compression), Standard(high / compression), RAW The problem is : when I download the pics on the pc the quality is never higher than : 3.94 MB (4,135,702 bytes) If I had used the zoom to shoot the pic., and/or when I edit just only exposure and sharpening, the quality drops to half of the original (approx.) / If I dare to crop (I always need to, with wildlife expecially) I get 1MB result (approx.) / —-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-— I tried to shoot in RAW hoping to better my odds, but when I convert the edited result to JPG I get again 2MB only (approx.) I have visited some pics selling sites but they all request a min of 4MB picture (that has been resized only by 5% !) —-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-— / To post my work on the bubble I usually I have to pump up the resizing by 1MB, sometime 2MB….....and I am not happy with this method ! WHAT CAN I DO ?? ANYONE OF YOU HAS SUGGESTIONS? / iS MY ONLY OPTION TO BUY A 12MB CAMERA??? / (Please post answers here so I have them altogether for quick reference) I will be grateful for your input!

Hi All; You probably already know this. Anyhow I know the RB font sizes are a little small for us, ah, mature generation. By accident, I found that if you hold the ctrl and C keys down, and roll your mouse wheel, you can increase/decrease the fonts size displayed on the screen. This really helped me scroll through RB stuff with less eye strain. Unfortunately it doesn’t stay set that way after you exit your browser (I use Firefox), but it’s easy to reset. My browser comes up when I boot up, and stays on all day. You’d think after being in computers for 40 years, I’d already know this, go figure. Hope you can use this. Cheers. G.

This is a question I see on a regular basis in the forums; sometimes in the journal entries as well. I know that RB has posted this information in the forums, though for most new people it’s difficult to find. When you run a search from “my bubble” it doesn’t pick up forum threads, and if you aren’t a forum watcher (or don’t know the forums are there) you don’t even know you can search there. For anybody looking for the base information for required image sizes, the forum thread to see is in The Learning Centre Forum – FAQ listing posted by Peter What the post doesn’t tell you is that the various print sizes differ from image to image, based on the uploaded size of your image. Below are the minimum redbubble required pixels for printing, as well as 3 images of my own showing the uploaded pixel size, and the resulting printout size at redbubble. I hope this will help give an idea of what you’ll get from the image size you have. NB: if you have images that aren’t large enough for what you want, please see the end of the post for help redBubble Minimum Sizes for Prints Cards: 1300 pixels X 900 pixels Small prints: 1600 pixels X 2400 pixels / Med. WARNING: image quality must be excellent in order to increase from small to large, so be sure your original sized image is of good quality. Increasing your images too much will cause artifacting that will show up in your large print. I thought maybe I should First off many thanks goes to BUTCHART who officially became the very first person (and who knows, maybe the last) to apparently have a complete and total lack of judgement and plunk down their hard earned money on a piece of my art. (I think it looks pretty good in card form) Many, many, thanks, and bows, followed by awkward shows of affection which make everyone in the general vicinity quite uncomfortable to BUTCHART You’ll have to let me know how long the shipping time is for someone who lives on the dark side of the moon Second, a big hearty thank-a-roo (which I think might be a kangaroo that is constantly shaking everyones hands, complimenting them on their clothes, and asking if they would like a drink) to STEVE aka CIMMERRIAN for featuring my ZOMBIE SANTA over at his group HUMOROUS ILLUSTRATIONS all of this week. Not only is Steve a hell of a guy, but he’s got a pretty sweet name to boot. (Not that I’m biased or anything.) Much thanks to Steve. Lastly a big thanks to the faceless whoever behind the Redbubble Oz curtain for featuring one of my pieces on the ART page. (I’m down on the bottom row). It’s amazing how many views the work got just by being up there, and the comments everyone left were extremely inspiring, despite the fact that I’m not the least bit deserving. I’ve been a member now for a little less than two weeks and it’s been fun and extremely inspiring at the same time. A big, totally awkward, more than a little bit uncomfortable, make you never want to speak to me again, and possibly call the cops on me to everyone that I’ve met thus far. Okay, I’m done. Now I need to go down to the basement and check on the girl I’ve got starving to death in the giant hole down there. I need to remind her that IT PUTS THE LOTION IN THE BASKET! IT PUTS THE LOTION IN THE BASKET OR IT GETS WORN AS A COAT! (Congrats to everyone who gets that reference.) Steve~

Someone has told me once that they hope I would get to exhibit my origami as a show sometime (I think they’re refering to the mini origami. See my origami gallery). So today while I went for a walk, I saw a flyer about an art show coming up which anybody can apply to for free. A form along with photos is required saying how much I’m selling my work for, or if it is just for display. I was planning to exhibit my little origami series, and it would be great if I can sell them, whether on their own, as jewelery, or attached to the front of a hand-made card. It seems that the “wow” factor of my origami is the tiny size; but would people buy them? They may be more sellable as jewelry or cards, but personally I like them better on their own, and prefer if I could just sell them that way. If sellable, how much is a good price? I have never seen origami being sold before so I really have no clue. If you have any ideas please let me know; even if you think it isn’t sellable, just say so, and I’ll just apply to submit my work for display and not for sale. Thanks!

Like my previous colour chart journal entry, I’ve tried something else to take the guesswork out of designing for RedBubble t-shirts. This time I’m comparing the unchanging maximum print area (2400px x 3200px @ 200dpi = 30.48cm x 40.64cm or 12inches x 16inches) to the varying sizes of the Unisex short sleeve t-shirt, which ranges from S up to XXXL. This should help you envisage how your design will look across the varying shirt sizes. As you can see because of the unchanging print area, things look considerably different when comparing S to XXXL. To RedBubble, I’ve made every effort to get these measurements exact as possible. If you notice any errors, please let me know. Below: The blue area represents the maximum unchanging print area. As a result, the larger the t-shirt the more empty space surrounds the design. Note: The shirt preview we see on Redbubble is based on the Large size. Below: Here you can see how the same design at the same size looks on the smallest and largest t-shirt. / For a larger version of the Blue square chart, you can download from the link below (copy and paste address in your browser)- http://img144.imageshack.us/img144/2117/unisexsizecomparisonzr3.jpg Thanks.

Now I did post this in the feedback and suggestions for Redbubble forums but I also wanted to journal about to have a discussion with people that may not read the forums – HERE IT IS > —-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—- While the title may sound a bit negative, this is actually a good thing, that unfortunately gets lost on the shirt previews at this point in time. We have a medium size rectangle to upload our artwork to shirts. Once uploaded we view an image much like this > Now I love this shirt by kgittoes – but I wouldn’t have realised it printed as big as this > Now look at the two images above and you will think that they are different size designs – but that is the same design! I would love to see the template change for previews to allow us to see how big it would look when wearing it – because most people I know would buy things they can see someone wearing – that’s why professional designers use blank shirt templates to show off their work. Is it possible RB to show a standard image of someone wearing the shirt in upload so that the side overlaps as it would in the real world? Here is a mock up – (Thanks to Yanmos for the outline) WHAT DO YOU THINK? Heres what we are comparing it to > Big difference? Would you want to purchase the shirt more if it was on the new template? I know I would! / I mean it is only a template picture file of multiple coloured shirts, damn, I could even change it all if RB wanted to! —-—-—-—-—-—-- The original forum post

I recently uploaded 3 full size images as a triptych on request. When it came to purchasing the image comes up as a dismal 610mm x 16.7mm which is way too small. You can purchase the individual shots @ 610mm x 40.6mm. The drastic reduction in width is ridiculous. Can anyone explain why this happens and why can’t we go larger? How can you change it ? Dimensions: 12473×3419 Thanks / Varinia :-))

I shall not tell you how big, but, let’s look at better. I told you, a wee while ago, about myshape.com Well, I finally did my measurements for it, and started my own personal online shop. And, while I am not entirely sure I agree with them as to what shape I am, I shall say that I thoroughly agree as to some of the pieces they tell me I should try. Sadly, so far, none of them are made out of black leather and held together by safety pins, but, some of them are beautiful, anyway, and would go quite nicely with my coloring and my lifestyle. Let’s take a look! / .................................................... I wrote that, above, yesterday. It included taking screenshots that I was going to upload to imageshack and put on here; and, I had copied off descriptions. Then, today, I learned there is an easier way. This is my Wish List from myshape.com Though, I took a few things off, for practicality’s sake (they went with nothing else); and, there are some things I would have on there, if could. See, once you get your measurements in and they know what size and shape you are, you can’t see things from the other sizes and shapes; though, you can still see the things that would fit you that flatter all shapes! One thing I learned about me, though, is that I change shapes! Sometimes I’m an H, sometimes an E, and, apparently, I spend a lot of time as a shape P. So, the things on my Wish List are for shape P, but, I could also be happy with some things from the other shapes. Anyway, at this point it is all academic as I can afford none of them. However, it might help me to choose more wisely in a thrift shop! If you have some spare time and a tape measure, you might want to give the site a try. If nothing else, it’s a bit fun and educatonal.

Ok, I thought I’d give back what I’ve learned since so many people on the Internet have helped me out! If you already know this and I’m the only one who just figured it out recently, then I’ll slap myself silly and call it a day LOL. Today, I’d like to show you how to get the most in terms of pixels on your subject, without cropping or enlarging the actual subject. We all know that when you crop an image, you lose pixels, when you enlarge, you may get blur depending on the software you use. I use Photoshop CS and CS4 (recently got). Let’s take this picture as an example. / It’s a nice tight shot taken vertically with some white space all around her. I have learned to frame my subjects like this and ensure I have space all around, because later I can have more options to work with. Now with that image, all you can pretty much do is print vertically, which is ok. Now let’s say you wanted to achieve the same shot but framer her to the right, like 1/3 of the picture for an interesting composition. With you camera, you would turn it sideways and have to “zoom out” to fit her in the right or left side and have all that white space on either side. Now, it will be a great image, except now your subject has gotten much smaller in terms of the overall portrait. Get it? You got that shot, but you had to lose out on the size of the subject. So if you cropped or enlarged, you would lose out a bit on pixels and maximum enlargement size. Well I just learned that the crop tool, ain’t just for cropping in photoshop, well at least just not for cropping “down”. What I’m about to show you will work mostly on solid white or black backdrops, with very little effort, since colors will match perfectly. You can do it with other shades of white, but you will have some cloning, dodging or burning to do. I opened Kaylie’s picture, the one I took vertically against a solid white backdrop that was overexposed. In photoshop, I took the crop tool and dragged it over the entire photo. Then instead of dragging one side in to crop it smaller, i dragged it “out”, making my canvas larger! Before doing this, i made sure my swatch color was white. After I expanded the crop to one side, I hit enter. This made the canvas size larger and filled it in with the white color from my swatch! Really in like less than 2 minutes! Now you see the same image with Kaylie on the right and all this white space on the left, looking as if I shot it this way. But, you will notice now that it is landscape and Kaylie’s body size remains the same, so we have not lost any pixels on her. ! So now we have an image that works either in portrait or landscape printing! You can also do this in case you wanted a subject centered, etc. You can also do this by increasing canvas size, etc, but this is quick and super easy! This works great if you shoot musicians or anything that later may require that extra white space for words for a poster or CD cover, etc. Final image: / Please note that this image wasn’t completely white, so I did some cloning in the final image. But you will get the point I’m trying to make in this tutorial. Let me know if you have any questions! Enjoy! xoxo / Jen

As many of you know, it is very easy to insert pictures and clickable links in various places around Redbubble. If you don’t know how yet then look here and here From that same account I post a lot of journals featuring other artists work. Some journals have 20 or so clickable picture links. Some of you may be aware, but if not I hope you find this of use, it is very quick and easy to do a lot of images in a short period of time. The wording required between the two ! is exactly the same for each type of picture (postcard, laminated printed, medium square, etc) and just by changing the description means copy and paste can mean very quick multiple postings. Guys… I’ve been going back to look at some of my posts to see how the card version looked and realized that I was cutting off part of what I wanted to show do to RB formatting(UGH). I have replaced them so the card version would come out as nice as the prints, just in case someone may want to buy one. You may want to check some of yours. G>

I keep coming across beautiful images and cards that I would love to buy but I am put off of some that have words or borders because when I check them in the preview the borders are uneven or the wording is cut off. It is due to the small crop that Red Bubble does when printing them out. I am also reluctant to buy cards of images that are not the right size and you end up with them looking lost in card format. I am guilty of this myself and have been going through my large gallery and amending them. I have therefore rounded up what I hope will help us get them right. Knowledge Base: cropping and borders / We want your images to look amazing for your customer, and how you intended. The products have been designed to make your images look their best without the needing to add borders on your image files. The production of some products will require a small crop of 1-2mm but this is mostly unnoticeable. When making a purchase, the previews that you see on RedBubble should accurately reflect how the image will be positioned and cropped so use these as a guide For cards aspect ratio matters which is about 3:2 Here are the resolution thresholds for each of our products: Greeting Cards: 1300×900 pixels (1 megapixel) Matted Prints: 1800×1260 pixels (2.5 megapixels) Laminated, Mounted and Framed Prints and Stretched Canvas: / o 2400×1600 pixels (4 megapixels) for the small print / o 3240×2160 pixels (7 megapixels) for the medium print / o 3840×2560 pixels (10 megapixels) for the large print Posters: / o 2500×3500 pixels for the smallest print / o 3500×5000 pixels for the medium print / o 5000×7100 pixels for the large print Calendar images: 2182×1906 pixels for the months and 2371×2875 pixels for the cover Clothing: exactly 2400×3200 pixels (and the file must be a PNG). Notes Please do not manually change the pixel dimensions of your image. We use the number of pixels in an image to determine which sizes are appropriate – if you change the pixel dimensions you will trick our quality control software – but the products will come out looking blocky and horribly pixelated. If your image size or format is not right, this might restrict you from selling some products. We automatically determine which products your file can be used to create, so that we only ship products that both you and we can be proud of. Images above 60Mb, or 10,000×10,000 pixels in size, cannot be accepted on the site due to the unreasonable load they place on our servers. If you’re uploading files larger than 20MB they should probably be compressed or scaled down a bit — we don’t print billboards yet! File Format / We accept JPEG or PNG files (we don’t accept TIFF or PDF files). Colour Profile / We prefer the sRGB colour space (our printers are calibrated to sRGB). All of the above tips were found around Red Bubble I hope this helps, I thought thast having the info in one place would be helpful as I had to search around for it all If you do need to amend an image, no need to delete and upload afresh, just amend your image with your software and upload new version under the original in my bubble…....... / art…....... / and / using the change this image function under edit PLEASE check out this link too

THIS SHOULD HELP THOSE WHO NEED TO RE-SIZE THEIR ART / Some of the links won’t work in this, but the sizes are here for you to see. Tutorial: What Size Images Can I Print? / This is a question I see on a regular basis in the forums; sometimes in the journal entries as well. I know that RB has posted this information in the forums, though for most new people it’s difficult to find. When you run a search from “my bubble” it doesn’t pick up forum threads, and if you aren’t a forum watcher or don’t know the forums are there you don’t even know you can search there. Prints: 2160 X 3240 pixels / Large prints: 2560 pixels X 3840 pixels Posters small: 2500 pixels X 3500 pixels / Posters medium: 3500 pixels X 5000 pixels / Posters large: 5000 pixels X 7100 pixels Clothing: 2400 pixels X 3200 pixels Here are 3 of my uploads with the uploaded pixel dimensions, and what I can print from them: Strokes of the Lily (uploaded size 4200 X 5067) Cards / Matted Prints 9.6 X 11.5 / All Other Prints: Small 8 X 9.65, Medium 12 X 14.48, Large 16 X 19.3 / Posters: Small 16.5 X 19.9, Medium 23.4 X 28.2 (large is not available) / Softest Dreams (uploaded size 7200 X 5023) Cards / Matted Prints 12.6 X 8.8 / All Other Prints Small 11.4 X 8, Medium 17.2 X 12, Large 22.9 X 16 / Posters Small 23.3 X 16.2, Medium 33 X 23, Large 46.8 X 32.6 / On The Wind (uploaded size 3900 X 2571) Cards / Matted Prints 12 X 8 / All Other Prints Small 12 X 7.9, Medium 18 X 11.8, Large 24 X 15.8 / Poster Small 23.3 X 15.3 (other sizes not available because the uploaded file is not large enough) / What You can Do if Your Images are Too Small Please have a look at the links below – these are various methods and instructions for increasing your image size so you can print the larger image sizes on redbubble. WARNING: image quality must be excellent in order to increase from small to large, so be sure your original sized image is of good quality. Increasing your images too much will cause artifacting that will show up in your large print. Basic Resizing Tutorial / How I Enlarge Images and Preserve Their Quality by Steven Love I know there are other image size tutorials, but I wasn’t able to find them doing a search. Please, if you have (or know of) other tutorials that are relative to this journal, post a link to them in the comments.
