  • ‘Tides n’ Tribulations’ is the Sister sketch of ‘Allo Sailor’. This mermaid cries out haunting whaling tunes, taunts mariners and is often envisaged by carpenters who carve her art-noveauesque curves onto the nose of fiesty fishing fleets From: The Epic Collection of ‘Elle Jaye Rose’ facebook graffiti EDITION # of 20 SHIRTS note some designs may have an ever so-slight screen resolution affect (which is part of their concept)

  • Acrylics on canvas, 20×24 inch, 2008 / Often a story is pulled into the web of my work, and such is the case with the painting ˜The Singing of the Sirens”. It is the expression of a chapter from a Greek legend in Homer´s Odyssey 800 BC, Chapter 12. It portrays the moment when Ulysses passes through the dangerous, bewitching, singing of the half-woman, half-bird Sirens. Bound to the mast, he can safely listen without succumbing to their delightful calls, which could spell doom for his ship and crew. The dark colors are the music sounding through the air and water with gold portraying the mysterious tempting Siren tunes. The Sirens appear as white forms as the ship of Odysseus drifts to the right in the waves. The passions of life are displayed with the red colors using green to balance it with the hope to get through alive. Dark violets portray the evil, entrancing singing, the bewitching of all peoples..as the black form in mid remembers on the shadow of a bird´s body. The winding whirlpool in back is the spinning of the next adventure in this book, “Skylla and Charybdis”. A Symbolic Abstraction style was used to display this story.

  • Gazing out to sea, a beautiful mermaid looks whistfully accross foaming waves towards the horizon from her rock. Created using a collage of 3D sculpture techniques, fractals and digtal painting, resulting in a mythical, magical seascape.

  • I’d been at sea for nearly a month, with no where in mind, but to be alone and to enjoy the sea I loved so much. I’d had my 32 ft. sailboat for nearly 22 years now and she always faired well through the years. I sailed the Mediterranean Sea all my life now and found it to be the most pleasureable and calmest. As I traveled through the waters of the deep one moonlit night in late November, a magical creature suddenly arose and handed me an orb like crystal. She spoke no words, but I scented an urgency. Without a second thought I started the vessels motor and sped away. I had barely made a few knots away. when the sea erupted violently and surged high into the dusk of night. Then there lied silence and calm again. Unsure of my own safety I returned to see what lied beneath the turbulence, and there falling into the depths was her body, that creature I had seen but moments ago lifeless amongst many of her kind. My heart shattered at what could have done this horrific act. I knew then what the orb was, not a gift but life….a measure of self sacrifice to another, in hopes her kind would be spared but one soul. / I held the sphere for hours and sailed further out into the sea. Light grew fast and strong inside the orb. My mind calm and my heart filled with antisipation. But then my motor sputtered and died. I set the orb down into a chest to go down into the hull and check the motor. Upon my return the orb was shattered and nothing inside. A noise off my starboard side alerted me. I ran to see, lo and behold a small but healthy creature like that of the one i had seen earlier this night, it turned and looked at me. Its eyes bright , with feminine features and a small smile of gratitude upon its glorious face. A tear fell from my face at the awe of this site. She turned and dove deep, Id hope I had done the right thing by not returning her to the area I had found her. Suddenly my motor started I knew it was time to leave, as i passed the chest i noticed something shiny, I reached down and it was like a pearl with the same texture as the orb. It shined like a diamond. I decided to make a pendant of it when I returned to port. / Years had passed and I never forgotten the creature of the deep, and I mapped my way back and set voyage in hopes of knowing the chance survival of the creature. It had been days at sea and nothing, I knew i was in the right area, and decided perhaps it was better not knowing and just believing she made it. I turned homeward when a light shined through my sweater, I pulled out my necklace and the minature orb was glowing brightly and pulsing. I was elated and baffled, why now? Then a splash of water hit my face, I ran to the bow of the boat and there in the water was not just one but two creatures, one turned and smiled and I knew it was her and then the second turned a male species, then a third, fourth popped up, I was dumbfounded yet so excited. But my excitement was not to last long they all chattered then dove beneath. She stayed but a moment longer and I swear I heard her say ” We live, Thank you” in my mind, Before I could say your’e welcome she was gone. The glow of my necklace began to fade away. It was as if the pendant was a beacon. Now, I knew I could aways find the family again. I returned yearly and with each vogage the community of creatures had flourished. I did learn the name of them the Atargatis. They had lived for thousands of years beneath the sea and that event back when i had first met them was a natural disaster an undersea volcanic eruption nearly 12 miles below the surface. But the toxins were no match for them fore they are very delicate creatures. Her mother was but only a few that had the ability to surface. It was a mere leap of faith for her that I was there at that moment in time. But as I lie here now upon my deathbed I send these to you my beloved grand daughter, my compass, map, and my most prized possession of all. I want you to wear this pendant so you someday can sail out to sea and meet these incredible creatures. But tell no one, fore they are but a mere precious gift of the sea and only a few should ever be so privledged to meet them. / The end. all text written by Lisa C. • According to European folklore, Melusine is a feminine water spirit, with the body of serpent or fish from the waist down, much like a mermaid. Sometimes she is also portrayed with a dragon’s body. The original image for this is 12×16” and was created with oil pastels, colored pencils and metallic paints on blue watercolor paper.
