Mermaids are legendary aquatic creatures with the head and torso of human female and the tail of a fish. Much like the Sirens of Greek mythology, mermaids in stories would sometimes sing to sailors and enchant them, distracting them from their work and causing them to walk off the deck or cause shipwrecks. Other stories would have them squeeze the life out of drowning men while trying to rescue them. They are also said to take them down to their underwater kingdoms. In Hans Christian Andersen’s The Little Mermaid it is said that they forget that humans cannot breathe underwater, while others say they drown men out of spite. The Sirens of Greek mythology are sometimes portrayed as mermaid-like; in fact, some languages use the same word for both creatures.
Young mermaid is sitting with arms upraised and holding her flowing dark hair. She is resting on a rock while gazing out to sea watching the clouds approach on the horizon. Greens and aqua blue tones.
An ethereal siren, born of the spirit of the earth, and armed to the teeth This is an old design that I unearthed and decided to revamp to see how far my skills have come. You can check out the old version on my deviantart account if ya like, but this one is better ;)
This photo was taken in Las Vegas at the front of Treasure Island Hotel Casino. This is a view of 1 of the ships used in the TI Pirate Show (Sirens Of The Sea) that was put on every night on the hour or so depending on the weather conditions.

I always loved my Steampunk girl and wished to draw some more slightly odd ladies. I think this Mermaid is called Maeve. Tools Used: Biro on card, Adobe Photoshop, Wacom Graphire, Wet Media Ink brush / Time Taken: About 4 or 5 hours. A lot of work went into this one. / Textures used: All available from http://pendlestock.deviantart.com

Hand Drawn Digital Painting. This was a real fun experiment. I used a previous doodle which I copied, added texture and colour and then shaped for the swimsuit, then did the rest with the pen and smudge tools, using Photostudio. This was great fun, it’s like drawing with liquid light, just love it, so will definately be doing more.
