My wife and I were toying with the idea of moving to Hobart, after we returned from two rears in the UK. A research visit doubled as a great opportunity to scout subjects for paintings. This little tree on the shore of Lake Sinclair appears largely as I found it, though I tweaked the background. Finding the tree capped a great afternoon of walking around the lake. I think it may have been the first painting in this body of work.

Castle Sinclair Girnigoe was the home of the Sinclair family, Earls of Caithness. Girnigoe Castle was built around the late 14th to early 15th centuries on a rocky promontory, and was defended on the landward side by great ditches, spanned by drawbridges. The main feature of this castle is a three or four storey tower house, probably completed towards the end of the 16th century although there are the remains of 15th century buildings beneath it. During a period of redevelopment at the castle in the early 17th century, George Sinclair (4th Earl) obtained an Act of Parliament to change the name from Castle Girnigoe to Castle Sinclair. However it appears that the two names became associated with different parts of the castle leading to the impression that there were two castles on the site. The Campbells of Glenorchy briefly occupied the castle after emerging victorious from a battle with the Sinclairs. In 1680, George Sinclair of Keiss, who later became the 7th Earl, removed the Cambells by force, partially destroying the castle in the process. In recent years the ownership of the castle has been returned to the Earls of Caithness, and is listed as the official seat of the Earldom. The castle is currently maintained by the Clan Sinclair Trust who are working to preserve it. Canon 350D 18-55 IS
Sinclair Castle near Wick, Scotland. Constructed in the late 15th century, and destroyed in 1690. Left alone to erode and decay from that time on, it is only now undergoing reconstruction efforts. You can see a bit of scaffolding at the rear if you look really closely. Taken with a Canon 5D, 24-105mm.

The natural beauty of our Australian Bush. This was taken at Sinclair’s Gully Winery & Cellar door at Norton Summit in the Adelaide Hills, where they are conserving & revegetating the native bushland on their property. The trees in this image are Candlebarks & Stringybarks & they support an abundance of birdlife. I have used ‘artistic lisence’ with this image and added textures to enhance the contrasts.

From the old, old computer game I used to play on the C64. Play it online here! Here’s a great article on the mystery surrounding the creator of Manic Miner, Matthew Smith.
These beautiful Candlebark Gums were photographed at Sinclair’s Gully Winery at Norton Summit – the Adelaide Hills only eco certified winery & cellar door. The Candlebarks botanical name is Eucalyptus rubida, and in dedication to these beautiful towering trees on their property Sue & Sean of Sinclair’s Gully Winery have named their wonderful sparkling white “Rubida”. This image has been treated with a painterly & textured effect.
A stand of young, rare Candlebarks in Sinclair’s Gully, Colonial Drive, Norton Summit, South Australia. Candlebarks are the only trees yellow tailed black cockatoos roost in the state.

This photograph was taken at Sinclair’s Gully Winery at Norton Summit. Young Yellow Tailed Black Cockatoos spend 5 days on the ground before they can fly & are vulnerable to predators such as foxes. This fledgling yellow tail black cockatoo was rescued from the road & placed behind a fox proof fence to protect it while it learns to fly. The adult Yellow Tails still feed it & a group of them have been encouraging it to fly.

Sinclair Centre links Vancouver’s exciting waterfront developments – the cruise ship terminal, convention centre, the Pan Pacific and Waterfront Hotels – with downtown Vancouver. The centre is directly connected to the Seabus Terminal, and Waterfront Station and there are more than 2,200 parking spaces within a three-block radius… The main post office was housed here from 1910 until the new one opened in 1958. The Post Office Building is in an Edwardian Baroque style, combining English and French influences. It features an atrium clock consisting of four 12-foot diameter clocks built in 1909 and is the largest clock movement in Western Canada; the minute hands alone weigh 92 kilograms (202 pounds) each. No texture added – taken from the 9th story of a building down the street, with pretty dirty windows!
