Wind patterns on sand hill on the Madigan Line in the Simpson Desert. A remote wilderness and a rare image.
An inland water way with a difference. / This is the smooth rich red sands of the Hay River located in the wilderness area of the North Simpson Desert. / Seasonal rains create flash floods, brining life to the desert… a ribbon of life that runs from NT near Jervios through the heart of the Simpson, on toward Poepell corner near the QAA line which is normal desert crossing to Birdsville / A very rare scene experience only by a few travellers. / Taken on Fuji S2 Pro
The outbuildings of Old Andado Station in NT hold some jems. / The Northern Territory Stubbie on the left is a popular size in these hot climates.
Tradtional owner Lindsay Bookie and his family have allowed access to the wilderness Hay River over the last 2 year. He welcomes travellers to his camp at the far north edge of the Simpson Desert.(it’s about a half day drive from Jervios station coming from the top end off the Plenty Highway. / Along with bush tucker tours and talking around the camp fire he is a great host. / In this image Batton Hill and the spectacular white ghost gums of this area catch the last ray’s of red desert sunset. / Taken on Fuji S2 Pro
On the western edge of the Simpson Desert,Old Andado Cattle Station is nestled between two rows of red sandhillls that disappear as far as the eye can see. / The station has many out buildings and historic interest. It now carries a heritage listing. It was restored by the station owner Molly Clarke who now lives in Alice Springs. Caretakers live on site and manage the desert camp ground for visitors
Fiery red sunrises have often been a feature and a great experience of camping at Batton Hill in the North Simpson Desert. The black silhoutted trees and messe form a strong contrast against the fiery red sky

Getting to know the stars is an important part of landscape photography. Using a compass and G.P.S I was able to pinpoint the South Celestial Star. Because of the rotation of the earth, using a six hour exposure gives the feeling of the stars trailing around this point. I used a 5 million candle power flashlight to illuminate the sand dune. Because of the massive size of the dune I had to climb an adjacent dune and paint the light on from there. Epiphatree: When you are lost in a daze thinking and walk into tree. Your brain cells jolt together from the impact causing synapses to fire madly resulting in a smashing idea or cunning plan. Of course it goes without saying that if you have your very own Boob Lady doing some throat singing at the time you walk into the Epiphatree, this will increase the total awesomeness of the resultant idea or cunning plan exponentially.
