9 years ago when Daniel was born his mum and I gave him this teddy, one he soon learned to call “Mine” thanks to his light fingered older brother. Well poor old Mine is looking the worse for wear and we don’t know how long his well loved threads will remain together – this image is for Dan to remember the love for his bear in years to come. (If this image is sold the proceeds go to Dan’s pocket money.) Taken with Canon 5Dmk2 and 100mm f2 prime lense at f2.4 1/60 400 ISO in Manual mode, custom WB and single studio light. Unadjusted from camera.
I realise this similar to some of the other images but I wanted to add this image as I feel this is a tad better in some ways. I took this this afternoon – a couple of days after the last few images. Taken with Canon 5Dmk2 with 24-70mm f2.8L (55mm) @ f22, 2.5sec exp ISO100
June 2008, taken just after sunrise on Tybee Island, Georgia. / / Nikon D200, Sigma 15-30mm lens at 26mm, 1/320 s at f/9. The single raw file was processed twice and the 2 resulting files were then combined to get cleaner highlights and shadows.

This is a series I started shortly after my older brother Darren’s wedding in March this year. / I couldn’t afford a wedding present for him and I felt terrible about it, so I decided to start drawing a belated wedding present for them. / This is the work that I am most proud of to date. / I started the first one in April and finished the last one in June. / It was an epic body of work that I had to keep going back to between commisions. / Special thanks to Mark at Perceptions Photography for giving me permission to use the reference photo (which you can see on his website) Graphite Mechanical Pencils 3H, HB, 2B on Reeves A4 white sketch paper Completed 2nd June, 2009
“Simon, Simon, Satan has asked to sift you as wheat. But I have prayed for you, Simon, that your faith may not fail. And when you have turned back, strengthen your brothers.” ~Luke 22:31&32 After the saint is sifted and returned, she/he has a solid foundation of faith. A preview of what’s in store for Wave Four of the Game of Kings collaborative project, to be released on Monday, 17 August. Artwork: Simon Sherry
Commissioned Portrait. / I went around to the client’s house and took the reference photos myself on this one. / We decided on a style from the artwork I brought with me, and we got to work. / She particularly liked the style of Dwelling In Darkness and Bathing In Shadows so I endeavoured to angle the light in such a way as to capture this mood with plenty of shadows and contrast. / I took the pictures home and tweaked them with Photoshop and emailed her a layout I proposed to draw, and she liked my idea. / I’m very happy with this one, I really enjoy white on black, it is a genre that I can execute quite easily, and it is very effective. I’m also much more comfortable with taking my own reference photos, that way I can decide on the composition before hand and know what will or won’t work. White and Black charcoal pencils and Black Pastel on Reeves black paper A3. / Completed 8th September, 2009 Please contact me for commissions if you are interested! / simonaberle@hotmail.com /
The Black Queen’s Rook (The Basilisk) / Artist: Simon Sherry / Biography: Danny Another giant mutant created by the Shaman, the Basilisk is charged with protecting the Black Queen. Like the Bullrock, the Basilisk is the product of gene splicing – in this instance dragon and giant. More intelligent than the King’s Rook and fiercely loyal to the Queen and King equally, the Basilisk is allowed to wander free on its own estate and hunt , train and care for itself. When entering the field of battle, it is usually accompanied by swarms of its parasitic minions, The Stain. /
Captured with Canon 5Dmk2 and Canon 24-70 f2.8L at 1/30 f11 ISO50 with Cokin ND4 + Cokin Grad ND4
The Black King’s Pawn / Artist: Simon Sherry / Biography: Danny Since all servants of the Black King train for war from the age of three, there is a massive pool to draw from as front line Infantry. The culture of the Army of the Black Spear deems that to die in battle is to die a glorious death but this doesn’t mean that soldiers should give their lives away easily.
This is Ely catherdral, and the clock tower is where the main front entrance is to this most inspiring, beautiful and all handcrafted work by man, taking over 100 years ago to create. There is beautiful stained glass windows, impressive views from the roofs, and so much to see inside, and althou it has lots of tourists it presence with in is still a house of god with hourly prayers read out. I did not like the colour version of the image just could not get my colour balance right,so i was going to delete the image but thought i would just play around with it in b&W and this is what appeared. I just love the clouds coming forth across the sky just has a feeling about it, but i cannot put my finger on it, possiably you can. But i liked it and so have kept it. About as close to impressionism as I get, but still the work was very close to the reference photo I took. / I climbed a eucalyptus tree with my digital camera at dusk one day because the light that filtered through at the beginning of sunset was simply beautiful but almost unbelievable to the eye with it’s reds, purples and oranges highlighting the trees. / I’ve refrained from putting this on the Bubble until now, because my wife Claire started her own oil version at the same time as a husband and wife artistic project, except a more abstract version, but she is struggling to get motivated to paint at the moment, but enough is enough and I can’t wait! Sorry baby ;) Soft Pastels on Burgundy Colourfix paper, 660mm x 470mm. Completed 12th October, 2009 Original For Sale
