Taken at 2:30A.M on Sunday August 16th. / I used a Tamron 200 – 500mm with a 1.4 converter. / With the camera magnification of 1.6 it made the lens a 1120mm, I spot metered the moon. I took the photo near Lakewood Wisconsin while at my camping trailer.. I woke up at about 2 A.M. and had to put out my dog, when I did it looked like there was a street light shining, I just had to get the shot. / Also, I took the photo in a RAW file and worked it in Photoshop Elements 6 which I use for my choice of photo software. / And of course I just had to titled it with a song title, if you know the song you are past 50 / / View Larger

Whilst staying at the hotel which over looks the bay of St. Peter Port, I saw this view and just had to get it. i spent time trying to get the settings just right and this was the best of the lot. It still isn’t just right, but I do like this anyway. This is Castle Cornet which stands guard over the port. It was first fortified as a castle between 1206 and 1256, following the division of the Duchy of Normandy in 1204. In 1339 when a French force captured the island and occupied it for several years, Cornet was besieged, captured and the garrison massacred. It served as official residence of the Governor of Guernsey until 1672 when the keep was catastrophically destroyed. A bolt of lightning struck the magazine of the castle, destroying the keep and a number of living quarters. In World War II, it became occupied by a small group of German troops. It was presented to the people of Guernsey in 1945 by the Crown. Canon EOS-1Ds Mark ll, 28-300mm zoom lens, f/20, shutter 1/4 / ISO 800, Cokin graduated grey ND filters, 121 and 120 (tripod and shutter release cable)
“Silvery Moon” was featured in the group JPG Cast-Offs in March 2009 “Silvery Moon” was featured in the group Dimensions in January 2009 An almost perfect full moon! I have to take advantage of these when they come. Tomorrow it could be completely clouded over! I think this is as close to a full moon as I have gotten with more than a 80% chance of it being clouded over the chances of getting a completely clear full moon is next to nil! This is just a tiny area on my window (about and inch), and when it’s very cold out, the crystals and frost designs are just like a silver forest in the snow. Here in Canada, especially on the prairies – we have frost and snow from November to March. I’m quite proud to see how Canadians do their best with coping with the 5-6 months of cold. Hockey, Skiing, Skating, Curling, Snowmobiling, or simply enjoying even the little details of frost! We make the best of the cold as well as our wonderful summers.

They are a critically endangered species due to habitat destruction caused by palm oil, logging and other human activities. Their dwindling population is thought to be between 2500-4000 individuals. Not many at all… They are also popular victims of the exotic pet trade. / You can help Silvery Gibbons by clicking here My article on palm oil and its effect on Orangutans can be found here My Gibbon Images http://www.animusphotography.com

We have many young Steller’s Jays at the bird feeders and birdbaths. My mate Howard Marsh shot this of two young squabbling (and noisy!) Steller’s Jay and allowed me to post. The Steller’s Jay (Cyanocitta stelleri) is a jay native to western North America, closely related to the Blue Jay found in the rest of the continent, but with a black head and upper body. It is also known as the Long-crested Jay, the Mountain Jay, and the Pine Jay. It is the only crested jay west of the Rocky Mountains. They are omnivores. (Based on info from wikipedia.) I like the way the D300 manages faster ISO speeds without noise. The D200 does not. Nikon D300 and Nikkor 70-300mm lens. 300mm, at f/5.6 and 1/200 sec, -0.3ev, IS0 400, manual exposure, manual focus. Converted from 14-bit RAW to jpeg using Capture NX 2.1.

A composite photograph of a Helichrysum flower superimposed on the pattern formed on a pool of water by droplets falling from a fountain. Taken in Devon.
The sea appeared to be bubbling & catching the low November sun. / A sparkling pathway leads the eye across the watery expanse to Arran / & it’s ever ‘sleeping warrior’ under his blanket of early winter snow.
Moon Poem Series sisters journey one summer night / when days were measured / by time spent together / sharing all the newness of the earth / when secrets rolled off the lips of babes / in orbit around the summer days / when the moon was full of fairy tales / in beating rhythm with the heart of a child / and darkness was filled / with campfire delights / where friendships were sealed / and promises were made / sealed by the light / of the silvery moon © Hickerson This poem is a part of my newly published book “Moon Poems” / Please click on the link for a preview. / BOOK PREVIEW /
