I used tweezers to create the last few folds. I can’t remember how big the paper was, though the wing is 7mm long. So basically I present the creator and the creation where the crane is framed by my fingers forming a circle. We can only understand size, fragility and significance when we compare two things. When we think, for example, how big the world is, we’re like tiny little specks of sand, or even atoms, to the eyes of a God holding the earth in his palm. I did not make this crane and take the picture with the description in my mind; but created it by instinct. It wasn’t easy drawing out my words initially. However many viewers have left very inspiring comments about my work, and for that I am grateful. Thank you. I’m just back from a wonderful two week vacation on the small Island of Halki, Greece and I find that I have been nominated by kalayrder for the Most Helpful Bubbler competition. To say that I am thrilled to join this elite group of fantastic people would be an understatement. The RB community is fantastic, the user interface is very clever (and improving all the time) but it can be a little daunting at first, especially if you are not so computer literate. So many people have helped me to get started, so I love to help others when I can. Share the knowledge and make life easier for everyone. Looking at the list of nominees, I can see that there is some serious competition, every one of them deserving of the prize (not sure how I got in there, but I’m not complaining). Good luck to everyone. / Tom

a beautiful ending to an exciting day… while it may ‘look like any other’-each day is special, and what better way to remind ourselves to be sentimental, than with a sunset.

As with so much of my work, its up to the viewer what they make of this, but the title came from the notion that ‘nothing is quite what it seems’... The work grew out of initially making the wave as a montage and as ever wondering where to go from there. It was around the time that I was working a lot with images of the moon and looking at the power of nature – Tsunami and so on. Perhaps therefore this is a cautionary warning to watch our world… Then again you may see something entirely different – do let me know ! Also available as a super high resolution Giclee print from my own website.

The Woodhouse Grove Wesleyan Chapel is of historical importance as an early intact building within the broader context of Victoria and in particular in the Whitehorse area. The Woodhouse Grove Chapel is important as it demonstrates the early establishment of individual towns around Melbourne that later became part of and were enveloped by greater Melbourne. The chapel is a remnant of the original small, once rural towns that grew up around Melbourne in the nineteenth century. The Woodhouse Grove Chapel is of architectural and aestheic significance as an unusual example of a Georgian detailed Wesleyan chapel. The chapel demonstrates an early use of cream brick and a rare use of the the local Koonung Creek stone. The chapel is important as a substantially intact 1850s building which has undergone little alteration on the exterior or interior. (Australian Historic Themes: 4.6 Remembering significant phases in the development of settlements, towns and cities; 8.6 Worshipping; 8.6.4 Making places for worship) This place is entered in the Victorian Heritage Register. 19/12/2002) The Australian Heritage Commission recognises the standards of historic assessment of Heritage Victoria and therefore acknowledges that this place has National Estate historic values. Enquiries concerning the assessment or conservation of this place should be directed in the first instance to Heritage Victoria. Commonwealth authorities and bodies should contact the Australian Heritage Commission directly if any Commonwealth action is proposed in relation to this place. HISTORY The former Woodhouse Grove Wesleyan Chapel was constructed in 1855-56. It was one of the first church buildings to be built in the Box Hill area, and the oldest surviving church building in the municipality. It has been in continuous use as a church since its construction and is now known as The Grove Uniting Church. PHYSICAL DESCRIPTION The Woodhouse Grove Chapel is a small rectangular building of coursed freestone with stone quoining at the corners. It has round-arched timber framed windows with cream brick surrounds and keystones. It is a simple single roomed building with a porch to the Woodhouse Grove elevation. Tiananmen Square (simplified Chinese: 天安门广场; traditional Chinese: 天安門廣場; pinyin: Tiān’ānmén Guǎngchǎng) is the large plaza near the center of Beijing, China, named after the Tiananmen (literally, Gate of Heavenly Peace) which sits to its north, separating it from the Forbidden City. It has great cultural significance as a symbol because it was the site of several key events in Chinese history (See below: Events). Outside of China, the square is widely known for the Tiananmen Square protests of 1989.[citation needed} Again, note the smog.

SO YOU WANT TO BE WITH ME, SILLY BEE...

This is a poem I wrote in response to someone’s interest in me, I wasn’t feeling very marketable (attractive or desirable), and I listed the reasons why…most important was the last reason.

“You may seek companionship and warmth, for example, / but if your unconscious intention is to keep people at a distance, / the experiences of separation and pain will surface again and again / until you come to understand that you, yourself, are creating them. / Eventually, you will choose to create harmony and love. / You will choose to draw to you the highest frequency currents / that each situation has to offer. / Eventually, you will come to understanding that love heals everything, / and love is all there is. / The journey may take many lifetimes, but you will complete it. / It is impossible not to complete it. / It is not a question of if but of when. / Every situation that you create serves this purpose. / Every experience that you encounter serves this purpose.” ~ From ‘The Seat Of The Soul’ by Gary Zukav

the difference between cool and significant

anyone who has been involved in creating or appreciating art for a reasonable length of time should be aware of the ongoing tension between high art and popular art. this would especially ring true for those people who have spent time in a formalised academic environment. while art schools and art theory have brought popular culture under the umbrella of acceptable practice (they had little to no choice in doing otherwise or see art disappear from the face of the earth) there remains a residue of distinction which separates the cool and the significant. cool is a term bandied around ad nauseam by all people from all walks of life. in todays art world it finds particular placement among those who champion popularised forms of expression. Street art, stencil art, comic art, animation, audio/video and anything capable of being posted on the net jump to mind. cool tends to wain in its usage when the individual enters the stratospheric realms of elite art which even in this age of post-deconstruction still persist and persist with a kind of stubborn insistence that it is necessary and the work found in this realm is different and significant compared to all else called art. the significance attached to the work found in the realms of high art are termed thus for two predominant reasons. first is the particular aesthetic which must be achieved to gain consideration for admittance. secondly and just as important is the requisite theoretical attachment the work comes with, much like an email. if an artists work lacks either of these things there is little chance it will be considered. the aesthetic it requires has two basic needs. it must be ambiguous and to a degree confusing. this is essential to encourage as many possible reactions to the work. it is better to say nothing specific. it is far more advantageous to set the work adrift on an ocean of possibility. sometimes if the artist is especially astute they will embed the work with a secret covert language decipherable by all but a few individuals. this language itself is far from full proof and is open to variegated interpretations. such an aesthetic lends itself to theoretical attachment in a similar vein. contemporary artistic theory is far removed from a casual popular description of being cool. it is far more likely to elicit a ‘what the fuck?’ again this is due to a particularity necessary to enable the artwork to distinguish itself and to allow others, wondering whether the work is significant, if in fact it is. now to elicit a ‘damn, that’s cool’ requires less and falls into the treasured realm of the spontaneous. it is far more immediate, requiring the observer merely to come into contact with the artwork for the briefest of moments. a connoisseur of the cool knows what they like and does not need an artwork to be validated by a community to enable them to proclaim their positive affirmation. whether you like the cool or the significant is of little consequence. the cool is not interested in gaining validation by the significant. that world is too full of uniformity and necessitation. in some cases they may be even unaware of the existence of the significant. in turn the significant has territory to defend and standing to maintain. they see the cool as lacking development and insight and failing to contribute to the advancement of art.
