American mountain lion, aka cougar aka puma. Taken at the Dickinson Park Zoo. / / “Puma concolor: / The Latin name for the cat of many names Cougar. Catamount. Painter. Panther. Ghost cat. Puma. Mountain lion. In speaking of the many names of cougar, one folktale tells the story of Native Americans who would bring pelts to trade in what is now New York City. When the Europeans and white settlers would question why all only skins of females (given the lack of manes) were brought for trade, the Native Americans explained that the males lived far away in the mountains, playing a joke of sorts on the naïve newcomers—this is why cougars, who are not specific to mountain regions at all, came to be known as “mountain lions”. The etymological history of the word cougar comes from French naturalist-explorer Count Georges-Louis Leclerc Buffon, who called Puma concolor “cuougar”. This usage was derived from the Brazilian Portugese word cuguacuarana, which in turn came from the Tupi Indian word susuarana, which means “false deer”. We find that this word aptly captures the international allure and cross-cultural nature of the species, while distinguishing our organization from a popular brand of athletic shoes—Puma. Symbolism, Lore and Native American Experience with Cougar “Ghostwalker” The spirit of the Cougar chose to take the earth and walk as a spiritual hunter, to teach unconditional leadership, patience and determination. “The strengths they represent have a powerful lesson for those that are willing to learn from them” -Nancy Wood Taber, artist According to animal totem lore, cougar is the energy of leadership. If we listen to Cougar we learn to become the leader that people follow by choice, not by force. Cougar has the wisdom to lead through love, not through fear. Cougar is a take-charge totem or energy. Cougar people are such natural leaders that others tend to take their leadership for granted. If no one else is leading, cougar will naturally take over. Cougar is graceful and balances intention, strength and responsibility. Others are always safe when cougar is in charge. The cougar is very elusive and is rarely encountered in the wild. Because of this quality, cougar can appear without being noticed and quietly take control of a situation. Sometimes this can lead to conflict with others over territory. It is often noted as an animal that is independent, shy and withdrawn. The same characteristics are often found in people with this medicine. Cougar is associated with leadership and teaches decisiveness in the use of personal power. When it attacks it does not hesitate. When threatened it goes for the most vulnerable place. Cougar is not often allowed to show vulnerability. ~Excerpt from The Cougar Fund The Eastern cougar, native to states in North America East of the MIssissippi River, is gone from over 99% of it’s range and is listed as an endangered species of critical status.

  • Cruciform Tree
    by Astrid Pardew

    US$4.16–US$95.00

For the “God’s Signature” challenge. As soon as I read that there was to be a ‘God’s Signature’ challenge, this tree immediately came to mind. I call it the Cruciform Tree. It is a well-known tree in Malta. it is situated on the main road we refer to as ‘Rabat Road’. People sometimes light a candle or two, or place flowers at this extraordinary tree. For this picture, I lightened the ‘cruciform’ slightly so it would be more visible. No manipulations to the actual tree at all. This is a sculpture of nature. To me this truly is God’s signature! The below is a link to another image of this tree. My dear RB friends, I appreciate your comments greatly! I prefer to reciprocate them rather than thank you individually so please do not be offended by my lack of replies here. I shall be commenting on your work instead. Thank you all… Astrid x

  • “Consequences”, the signature piece from the Genetic Bill of Rights Painting Series by Mariam Muradian. • How To Add a Signature to your Images
    by Tom Gomez

If you want to add a real signature to your images (as in this example...

If you want to add a real signature to your images (as in this example), follow the instructions below: 1. Write a neat, readable signature. / 2. Scan it as a picture (.jpg file) at 300 dpi (ppi) / 3. Save the signature file. The following directions are for Adobe Photoshop Elements 5 and Adobe Photoshop CS2 (these are the versions I have). Some minor adjustments may be necessary if you are using another version. The next step is to save your signature as a brush. / 1. Open the scanned signature file in Photoshop. / 2. Select the Marquis tool. / 3. Draw the marquis around your signature (keep it tight to the edges of the signature). / 4. Click on the Brush tool. In CS2: / – Click on the Edit pull-down menu and select Define Brush Preset… / – A dialogue box will open (Brush Name). / – Go to Instruction step 5. In Elements: / – Click on the Edit pull-down menu and select Define Brush from Selection… / – A dialogue box will open (Pattern Name). 5. Next, name your brush something like my signature. / 6. Click OK. The next step is to place your signature on an image. / 7. Open your image in PhotoShop. / 8. Select the Brush tool. / 9. Go to Brush Presets Picker. Scroll to your signature – it should be near the bottom. You may use the square bracket keys to make the signature brush appear larger (use ]) or smaller (use [). / 10. Go to the area where you want to place your signature and click once. / 11. Save the picture as your photo name_Signed or something like that so as not to destroy your original picture. Cautions: / #1 / Images in RB are often cropped to fit to standard sizes. The Card option is one that may crop some of your original artwork depending on the size of the image. Depending on where you have placed your signature, RB may crop some of it away. Always check, by pressing on the buy/preview button in the Public View. You will be able to see if the signature has been cropped. If it has been cropped, load your original shot back into PhotoShop and repeat the process of adding the signature, but in a better position. Re-save the image (overwrite your signed copy). In RB, go to Edit mode for the image and upload the modified image (Change the image), then press the Save Changes button at the bottom of the Edit page. #2 / Depending on where you place the signature, you may need to change the colour of the brush tool. Some trial and error may be required. That should do it. Let me know if you have any problems. Tom You can find all my How To Tutorials by clicking here.

Courtesy Wikipedia here Barack Hussein Obama II (pronounced /bəˈrɑːk huːˈseɪn oʊˈbɑːmə ðə ˈsɛk.ənd/; born August 4, 1961) is the 44th and current President of the United States. The first African American to hold the office, Obama had previously been the junior United States Senator from Illinois, serving from January 2005 until November 2008, when he resigned after his election to the presidency. Obama is a graduate of Columbia University and Harvard Law School, where he was the first African American president of the Harvard Law Review. He was a community organizer in Chicago before earning his law degree. He worked as a civil rights attorney in Chicago and also taught constitutional law at the University of Chicago Law School from 1992 to 2004. Obama served three terms in the Illinois Senate from 1997 to 2004. Following an unsuccessful bid for a seat in the U.S. House of Representatives in 2000, Obama ran for United States Senate in 2004. His victory, from a crowded field, in the March 2004 Democratic primary raised his visibility. His prime-time televised keynote address at the Democratic National Convention in July 2004 made him a rising star nationally in the Democratic Party. He was elected to the U.S. Senate in November 2004 by the largest margin in Illinois history. He began his run for the presidency in February 2007. After a close campaign in the 2008 Democratic Party presidential primaries against Hillary Rodham Clinton, he won his party’s nomination, becoming the first major party African American candidate for president. In the 2008 general election, he defeated Republican candidate John McCain and was inaugurated as president on January 20, 2009.
