This was inspired by a sign we see very often here in Newfoundland. It’s a perfect blend of two iconic road signs from opposite sides of the earth. / Call it my gift to Australia for bringing us this wonderful site. / Created in Photoshop. / / Here is one of our signs: / / / The shirt looks great on the Cranberry coloured tee as well. /

Letters of the alphabet made from neon signs

A little homage to the bright blue and white signs used at Melbourne’s train stations. Fellow Melbournians, embrace. Everyone else, you can now wear a little piece of Melbourne everyday!
On Saturday I went into Sydney and met up with Mel Brackstone which was a real treat…. the weather here in Sydney had been pretty dire with heavy weather and thunderstorms forecast so we didn’t make any firm arrangements about what we would do preferring to just see what the day was like. We met at the steps of the Town Hall in the centre of Sydney and then wondered around the QBV building for a while and then meandered around the city ending up at the State Library where we took in an really delightful exhibition of black and white photo’s taken before WWll by a fella called Paul Caddy…. well worth a trip to town just for that to be honest… anyway after that we wandered down through the CBD to Circular Quay were we had some lunch and meandered around somemore before Mel was collected to be taken out to Rose Moxon’s place for a photo shoot…. this is one of the shot’s I took of the city buildings… the day had been overcast and threatening rain all day and then the sun came out with a vengence…. the curved brick walls of this building facinate me and when ever I go past it I take a few shots like this older image called hook this new image has something else though courtesy of that blazing flash of the sun above and behind this building…. a little celestial signage graces the sky above this beautiful building…. it makes it look almost like a compass to me….

Doing some retro shooting lately, and this sign was one of my many subjects, captured on East Colfax Avenue in Denver Minolta 5d / Minolta 18-200 DT Lens / Processed in Lightroom
I have really been going back to my roots lately with shooting retro themed subject matter and this is one of the shots that I recently took, I have a love affair with old skool signs, and the older the better! And Denver’s Colfax Avanue is simply loaded with them! Thoughts welcomed! / —-John Minolta 5D / Minolta 50mm f1.7 Lens / Processed in Lightroom
I just got back from Seattle and I must say that Signage is one of my most favorite things to view and so I shot a few. Seattle has the most beautiful Signage I have ever seen. This one is for a company called Filson. Below is some history and a link to the company. ≈≈≈≈≈≈≈≈≈≈≈≈≈≈≈≈≈≈≈≈≈≈≈≈≈≈≈≈≈≈≈≈≈≈≈≈≈≈≈≈≈≈≈≈ Filson – rugged quality for over 100 years Born in 1850, C. C. Filson inherited his father’s pioneer spirit and love of the outdoors. After homesteading in Nebraska and roaming the country as a railroad conductor, he moved to the small city of Seattle, Washington in the 1890’s. Filson’s timing couldn’t have been better. By 1897, the Great Klondike Gold Rush was on, and thousands of fortune hunters were stampeding into Seattle, headed north. Armed with a strong work ethic, a reputation for honesty, and several years’ experience operating a small loggers’ outfitting store, C. C. Filson was ready to stake his claim to fame. “TO OUR CUSTOMERS: if a man is going North, he should come to us for his outfit, because we have obtained our ideas of what is best to wear in that country from the experience of the man from the North - not merely one - but hundreds of them. Our materials are the very best obtainable, for we know that the best is none too good and that quality is of vital importance. YOU CAN DEPEND ABSOLUTELY UPON OUR GOODS BOTH AS TO MATERIAL AND WORKMANSHIP.” C.C. Filson, 1914 Catalog The Gold Rush Years: 1897-1899

Urban marketing in Vancouver, BC. A nice sentiment. Another example of phantom signage. If only more people were driven by love…
Always stay at this hotel after eating Mexican food.

On the first day of my stay in Melbourne while on route to the Ballarat International Foto Biennale I met up with some friends and we went to the old Convent in … I think… Abbotsford. Apart from it being a very beautiful place to just wander about in… there is a fabulous new artspace and gallery there which I am interested in for a possible exhibition next year. Anyway the jusxtaposition of the old and the new everywhere in this amazing place was a real photographers delight…. this is one of the random snaps I took while wandering about enjoying the beautiful spring weather and the company of my new friends….. / . / . /
