Fire hydrant or fire plug, is an active source of water provided in most urban, suburban and rural areas with municipal water service to enable firefighters to tap into the municipal water supply to assist in extinguishing a fire. A hose is attached to the fire hydrant, then the valve is opened to provide a powerful source of water.Care should be taken not to open or close a fire hydrant too quickly, as this can create a water hammer which can damage nearby pipes and equipment.
I had to laugh when I saw this, someone must have thrown it from the Uni Footbridge above. It crosses the Torrens River off Victoria Drive, Adelaide.
WC or Wc commonly refers to a Water Closet (aka a flush toilet). Urination, also known as micturition, voiding, and, more rarely, emiction, is the process of disposing urine from the urinary bladder through the urethra to the outside of the body. In healthy adults, the process of urination is under voluntary control; in infants and individuals with neurological injury, urination may occur as an involuntary reflex. A toilet, lavatory, water closet (WC), or loo is a plumbing fixture and disposal system primarily intended for the disposal of the bodily wastes: urine and fecal matter. The word toilet can be used to refer to the fixture itself or to the room containing the fixture, especially in British English.
Beach Closed sign on Warrain Beach due to huge swells.
Swimming is movement without artificial assistance. Its primary uses are bathing, cooling, travel, fishing and escape. An individual’s ability to swim can be judged by speed or stamina. Almost all mammals can swim by instinct. Bats, kangaroos, moles and sloths can swim, despite their rather strange shapes. The few exceptions include apes and possibly giraffes. Land birds can swim or float for at least some time. Ostriches, cassowaries and tortoises can swim.
Companion dog usually describes a dog that does not work, providing only companionship as a pet, rather than usefulness by doing specific tasks. Many of the toy dog breeds are used only for the pleasure of their company, not as workers. Any dog can be a companion dog, and many working types such as retrievers are enjoyed primarily for their friendly nature as a family pet, as are mixed breed dogs.
I don’t know that I would want to park there???
Date: May 2008 / Location: HMS Caroline’s Dry Dock, Royal Navy Reserve Base, Belfast / Camera: EOS 40D / Lens: Canon EF 28-135 IS Zoom / Subject: Secrets Act Sign / Comments: The Caroline is the second oldest warship in the world still floating on water and the last survivor of the Battle of Jutland. She is the last floating RNR Training Centre. The signage here, citing the Secrets Act is kind of ironic considering there isn’t much of value in the base and a note from the local Council can get you in, but I’ve only seen a few of these in N. Ireland and they are interesting nonetheless.

Saw this fence on the way back from the camping trip at Girraween, I found it quite amusing that the fence went into the dam and that they actually had to put up signs to warn people.
Sign found in the middle of pond~
I was in a quandary about what to call this one. My other choice was to call it chances. The arrow points to what the future lies for this tree. If it rains it will look like the tree behind on the right, if it doesn’t it will end up like the one on the left ie dead and fallen. Is that a fallen angel on the left? The photo is as is from the canon 450D, except for the cropping.
This way to register for boating and fising. Great sign but think the flood waters make it a little …. well…... redundant ! The Red River spills over the banks in Lockport Manitoba after ice dams up the flow.
Taken in the adelaide hills, these signs seem to crop everywhereyou turn.
The sign says “No Diving or Jumping” but the water was so calm and inviting, just like a giant swimming pool. Canon EOS 20D Sigma 17-70mm@17mm
This sign caught my eye while hiking, made me laugh. Larrabee State Park is a state park in Washington, located six miles (10 km) south of the city of Bellingham. It was the first state park to be created in Washington. Larrabee State Park had its beginnings in 1915, when the Larrabee family donated 20 acres of land to the state with the intent that it be made into a park. In 1923, the new park was officially named after Charles Xavier Larrabee. Shot this with my Panasonic point and shoot camera.
