  • To me, this is quintessentially Italy – rolling hills, unified trees, brilliant light and hard edge graphic signs. If it wasn’t for this bold little blue sign, I’d be driving off onto the wrong side of the road everytime. This image sums up Italy for me and whilst staying in a small country village I spyed this wonderful image with dark looming sky in the background, sun drenched light in the foreground, and a distant abode living quite contently in the rustle of its surrounding trees. I was riding my auntie’s old school push-bike, with daughter in rear and cameras in a very girly basket in the front – who cares what I looked like, I got the shot! (may even post the bike with me on it – not flattering)

  • Again, continually obsessed with the Italian signage and autostrades – and then all of a sudden this landscape just cried out to me. It was so perfect, just the way I like it – sparse, remote, golden and with a hint of industry driving past. I waited, risking a small amount of life and death, waiting for the right vehicle to drive past – could not have asked for anything better as this truck with perfect streamlined graphics appeared matching perfectly with the blue sign and all. I’m done!

  • stop sign at water landscape

  • Do you want to stop? Captured with a Canon 5D and 85mm 1.8 USM prime lens. / No digital manipulations, no tricks. / I took this shot on a vulcanic mountain on the beautiful island of La Palma. / There was a road going almost all the way up to the highest mountain since there are three world-class telescopes in the Roque de Los Muchachos Observatory on La Palma (the scientists have to drive up there easily). Since it’s one of the steepest islands of the world you get these amazing views. I took this shot around 2400m above sea level. When I saw the stop sign it caught my interest immediately.

  • Watching the Trains

  • Another ratty Infrared photo shot with a battered old Olympus OM1 while zooming around in a little zodiac in the frozen oceans of the Antarctic Peninsular. Another mysterious something captured in the clear blue sky and found later on the negative. Not going to put in the big rant this time. But I do believe that there are signs of the gods all around us should we choose to just open ourselves to them. Could this be one of them? Who knows but its certinally a strange thing to find hovering about in the sky and I for one am open to alternative explainations of what it may be or might symbolize….....:)

  • We’re all looking for a sign (every now and then), this is where I want to be – in a pure minimal landscape… oh, and that also sells Italian food!

  • Acrylic on canvas, 16×20 inches. This painting is actually a late stage extension of my childhood sexual abuse painting series. The image came to me during a meditation at a time when I began to retreat back into myself and away from others. Until then I had been trying to shed my isolationist tendencies. The face is mine, distorted but still distinct. The ribbons could be viewed as something coming untied or undone, but they are still quite elegant when moving in the winds of change swirling around. The “No Parking” sign signifies that I wasn’t letting anyone stop and stay any longer. Unfortunately, childhood sexual abuse has long and lingering effects. My hardest to overcome stigma is my tendency to isolate myself from others both emotionally and physically. If interested, you can see the entire abuse series at http://www.gjefle-art.com/abuse/abuse-index.htm You can also see this paintings “sister” piece here on Redbubble. / / ~
