This is a Crape Myrtle tree in Tallahassee, Florida. The species was introduced into the US in 1747 and is abundant in the south. They have sinewy, fluted stems and branches with a mottled appearance that arises from having bark that sheds throughout the year. Under the bark, the wood is often vibrant and rich, in more than one color. I shot this with a 105m macro, did not photoshop the image, and rotated it 90 degrees for this abstract shot.
