In life as well as fishing it’s all about the journey! / As the sunrise burned through the fog early Sunday morning, on Clear Lake near Hunstville, Ontario, two fishermen enthusiastically set out for their favourite fishing spot… / This shot was as a result of an early morning walk in / August 2008 in the fog: part planning, part serendipity. I particularly like the fact that compared to a lot of fog shots it displays color, to I think, an advantage and shows the promise of a beautiful sunny summer day emerging… Nikon D40, Nikkor 18-55mm lens Featured in the group Ontario November 2009 / Top Ten placement in the Summer challenge for the group Ontario November 2009 / Top Ten Placement in the Nikon D40 Users, Masterpiece challenge, September 2009 / Featured in the Nikon D40 Users group, July 2009 / Top Ten in the Journey or Destination challenge for the First Things group, July 2009 / Featured in the Outsiders, March 2009 / Featured in Canada: The Great White North group September 2008 / Featured in the Nirvana group September 2008 / Avatar for Shots In The Fog group October 2008 / Featured in the ImageWriting group November 2008 / Featured in the 100% group. Sunrise on the Chicago skyline with Lake Michigan aglow. The 3 block rocks were covered with a coating of ice and along with the posts reminded me of Stonehenge. Worked in Layers by placing two widely different exposed images on top of each other and removing parts of one image to leave the deep colors of the sky and keep the highlighted icy block rocks. This done using Adobe Photoshop CS3.

The Lake of Menteith (in the Loch Lomond and Trossachs National Park) on a misty, moisty, frosty morning in winter. The Lake is one of the only two bodies of open water in Scotland to be called a Lake rather than a Loch. This, I’m told, derives from the word “Laigh” .. meaning “Low”. Very occasionally, the Lake freezes over completely and, on such occasions, is used as the location for “The Bonspiel”: the famous curling match between the North of Scotland and the South of Scotland. The last Bonspiel was held in 1979 when the ice was 10” thick and a thousand competitors took part. 3exp HDR; colour overlay; Canon EOS 450D + 17-85mm zoom;

The rain and clouds finally cleared, just in time to allow me to get out to the lake while the leaves are still showing their finest colors. This is the shoreline of Rose Valley Lake in Gamble Township, north central Pennsylvania. Rose Valley is 5 miles east of the community of Trout Run. When you visit a beautiful place like Rose Valley Lake, please leave it exactly as you found it! Your food wrappers and empty containers must go back home with you for proper disposal. I had to do some cleaning up to be able to capture this pristine shot. Let’s all do the right thing, OK. Everyone benefits when we keep our “green” places green! This photo was taken on October 10th, 2009. It was shot with a Canon EOS 10D using a Canon EF 35-350mm f/3.5-5.6L zoom lens set to 90mm. The shutter speed was 1/45th sec. at f/8. The camera’s ISO was set to 100. Your comments are always welcome! Constructive criticism is appreciated. © 2009 Gene Walls All copyright and reproduction rights are retained by the artist.
