Taken on a very cold day at White Point Beach, Nova Scotia Canada. My then Fiancee now wife wrote this in the wet sand, and I took the shot. I thought this might make a nice Valentine’s Day card. This image has taken on new meaning for me now. My Mother had been in the hospital for a little over a week. We knew she was on her deathbed. She had suffered for many years with a number of serious chronic health issues, the most debilitating being COPD – a chronic lung disease which had her housebound and connected to oxygen 24-7. Well this morning (Feb. 15, 2009) she passed away peacefully. The reason this image is special to me now is that it was featured on the Homepage here on RedBubble just hours before she passed away. In my heart I feel that she had something to do with it. This was her way of telling me she loves me for one last time since this image prominently features the words “I LOVE YOU” in the sand. During this past week, unimaginable waves came crashing into the north shores of the Hawaiian islands. The surf was windy, and messy, and disorganized—not ridable for the great watermen of Hawaii. I happened to be in Sunset Beach, Oahu during the storm, and the sun only peeked through the clouds a couple of times, briefly. I was waiting. Here is my image.

Death-like sparks burn cold and hard / A symphony of sea salt soldiers / Shaping their invasion on awaiting land Leaping from splashes / Grasping for oxygen / A rush to do battle come the day, come the time Roaring to shore in spectacular voice / To crush the life from a million weeping pebbles / As they pray for forgiveness / Down on bended knee / Begging for second chances And all the while / Eyes peer from deep forbidden sea / For a slender gaze at the battle afoot / Gossiping like fishwives over sips of milky tea / As they twitch through heavy net curtains / And tut tut tut at the youth of today Then scuttle away / Chasing the tails of those who fled first / As the wounded and fallen lay still behind Time to draw a new breath whilst plans are redrawn / And commence another charge toward the quivering shore —-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—-—- Location: Auchmithie, Angus, Scotland © Donald Cameron 2009 / Monophotography.co.uk

I wanted to get a photograph the waterfalls in Pontneddfechan, Wales. I did some research, planned my route in the GPS and packed my kit. The chap in the waterfall centre was very helpful and was keen to tell me the proper welsh name of the waterfalls. I smiled and nodded, I still don’t have a clue to this day what he was talking about. Unfortunately I lost the map I bought and stupidly brought along my bicycle for quick access. Bad move. I had to carry my bicycle for most of the 10 miles round trip and also had to transverse a waterfall as I got stuck on the wrong side of the river and watched a load of guys in wetsuits try to walk behind the waterfalls and fail. All good fun. / This is my first attempt at taking wateralls so please be gentle. Canon 5D, 24-70mm at 50mm, f/20, 2.5 sec, ISO 50. ND filter used.
