Taken at Craigavon lakes in Co Armagh Ireland
Dawn this morning on my favorite island. I am visiting Cape Breton for the Celtic Colours International Festival. So far I have seen two wonderful shows, Pipers’ Ceilidh at St Ann’s Gaelic College with pipers from Scotland, Cape Breton, and Cuba and opening night show Common Ground: A Celtic Journey featuring Carlos Nunez from Spain as well as many musicians from Cape Breton, Scotland, Ireland, and Cuba (I guess there are celtic roots there too!). Tonight’s show is Anull gu Aiseag Mhira (Over to Mira Ferry). Inverness Gaelic Choir will be there from Scotland and Cape Breton’s own – Mary Jane Lamond, Wendy MacIsaac, Mairi Rankin, and Patrick Gillis. But the scenery….... is out of this world, and I know I can not do it justice!
Sunrise on the Chicago skyline with Lake Michigan aglow. The 3 block rocks were covered with a coating of ice and along with the posts reminded me of Stonehenge. Worked in Layers by placing two widely different exposed images on top of each other and removing parts of one image to leave the deep colors of the sky and keep the highlighted icy block rocks. This done using Adobe Photoshop CS3.

watercolour 12” x 16” on Arches Cold Pressed paper The only movement was the mist, drifting in wisps and then disappearing silently above the still surface of the lake. See a short movie that I took of this lake on YouTube

Glenmore Reservoir, Calgary, Alberta, Canada This was one my very first photo’s I took. There were many things I had not yet picked up. I had the iso on auto, which I think for this photo was about 400 – 800. This led to much of the noise in the sky. I had the aperture set at f22, which at the time I thought was best to bring more of the photo in focus but I later found it can soften the overall image. I also did not own a tripod so I had to balance the camera on some rocks which made composing the scene much harder then normal and led to a small amount of camera shake. In the end though this became the first photo I had taken that I was truly proud of and solidified my passion for photography.
