Old derelict buildings fascinate me … they are a physical window into our past. I found myself staring at this old shop trying to piece it all together … imagining horse and cart clattering past … the noise of trade … the bustle of people … what were they selling … Coke? Bloody hell – it’s been around for ever!

This was taken from my friends home in Painswick, Gloucestershire, England. They have this beautiful antiques store just across the road from them. I wanted to capture the feeling of the village life along this road that their house is on. So many visitors to the village make their way down this lovely road and stop to photograph our friends home, so I find it a privilege to be able to shoot from inside. I love this image. This shot is ‘as is’ from the camera. No adjustments have been made. Taken with a HP PhotoSmart C945 bridge camera.

Nikon D70s; Sigma 18-200mm lens; f/3.5; 1/125sec; 18mm focal length; minor edit for contrast only. Mick and I took our cameras for a stroll through town today, and I lingered a while at this shopfront, pondering about the tie as a symbol of male power and status, and the reflected glass ceiling.
