  • Space Invaders is an arcade video game designed by Tomohiro Nishikado in 1978. It was originally manufactured by Taito and licensed for production in the U.S. by the Midway division of Bally. Initially released in its native Japan in 1978, it ranks as one of the most influential video games ever created. Though simplistic by today’s standards, it was one of the forerunners of modern video gaming.

  • Mary Wollstonecraft Godwin Shelley, Writer, Poet, Shooting Star. Oil on canvas. / The author (at 18 years old) of FRANKENSTEIN. A woman of such profound personal courage, of stunning highs and lows, it boggles the imagination. Mary, I adore you. / A rebel who dodged convention, whose parents were famous free-thinker free love radicals, whose mother died giving birth to her, who was sent to Scotland at 15 for a good education, and who ran off to live with two of the most famous, revered, dangerous, and notorious wild-men poets (when poets ruled) Percy Bysshe Shelley and Lord Byron. It had to be like setting up housekeeping with Mick Jagger & Lou Reed. / Ostracized for romping through English tradition, she and Percy Shelley eloped to France, then moved into a castle on Lake Geneva with Lord Byron, proceded to practice Latin & Greek, write, live, and outdo each other. The very good looking bad boys were notorious for debts, affairs, abandoned children, sexually extravagant lives, and a trail of broken hearts. But they wrote gorgeously. Percy Shelley & Lord Byron remain two of the finest poets of the English language. / In what she called “a waking dream” teenaged Mary Shelley started to write Frankenstein, and published it finally under her own name, producing one more shock that an English woman could conjure stirring horror. She and Shelley traveled, changed countries like you’d change socks & became increasingly famous. Mary was pregnant many times, but six children miscarried, or heartbreakingly lived, to die as toddlers. One boy survived adulthood. She was in and out of depressions, trying to keep Shelley happy and produce her own original work. In rough Italian seas near LaSpezia, the accomplished sailor and non-swimmer Percy Shelley drowned. He was 29. Mary was 25, and felt her life ended. The extremes of drama that populated all their days astonishes. Lord Byron and a friend made a pyre on the beach to burn Percy Shelley’s corpse when it washed ashore. One of the two cut out Shelley’s heart (not an uncommon impulse at the time) and after arguing over who should keep it, decided to send it in a box, unannounced, to Mary. / At a time when women had limited rights, freedoms or possibilities, she turned her back on what she was told she must do, with gusto. What is, after all, an ideal life. She risked far more than her peers ever dared. She did not have an easy time of it. But she chose not embrace the comforts or society that would have driven her mad. It’s more than fair to say this woman really lived. Mary Wollestonecraft Godwin Shelley was dead at 53. ABOUT THE PAINTING: There are only 2 or 3 exisitng portraits of Mary Shelley, and one, painted by Richard Rothwell in 1840, was my reference. It is a peculiar painting of her, age 43. When tackling historical figures, one has to account for rigid art standards of the times. I tried to eliminate what might have been purely the painter’s imposition. Along with what I suspect was a purge of her wild history and monster story telling (making her nice, & vapid) he gave her features considered beautiful then: a long oval face, an extraordinarily high brow for heightened inteligence (same things the Greeks did with that full flesh at brow level) thin lips to prove a lack of avarice, matronly to suit her widowhood, and shoulders in such a drastic slope they deny a skeletal structure. (The Rothwell portrait is on Wikipedia under Mary Shelley’s name). All that seemed an exaggeration, his portrait does not look real to me. So I left in her high cheekbones, softened the oval and lowered the forehead a touch, gave her a fuller mouth, kept the deep eyes. I painted Mary Shelley as the 18 year old who wrote Frankenstein, with thoughts of ghoul and goblin fleeting across her eyes, sensing terrors to come, uncertainty in the present, having to rely primarily on herself, an active imagination, great mind and fabulous story teller. / I have her between the moon and candlelight because it seems to me that’s where she lived. / The Hawks Perch

  • Shooting smoke trails...

A couple of nights ago Matt (of Disenchanted Photography ) and I spent a couple of hours in his garage with the intention of experimenting with lighting and off camera flash. / We actually ended up shooting smoke trails for four hours and had a ball! / The experimentation with flash position, ISO and shutter speeds was very beneficial and I got alot out of the shoot. / / The first (mainly black) images that I’m showing here are pretty much off the stick. / They have been converted into jpeg via Lightroom and have had the blackness darkened, a little noise reduction, contrasted and thats it. / I’ve even left the little specks of dust and flying embers on the images! / / / / / / / / / / / / / / Here are some that Matt has used his post proc skills on… / Matt has the “clear gif” setting on, so I could not copy in the larger images… / / / / / / / / / / / / I must admit after spending just a short amount of time on post prod myself I personally found an artful beauty in these type of images simply by converting them to monotone and tweaking the contrast. / / / / / / / / / / ...and to finish off, those of you who know me well know that lately I’ve been hypothetically looking for Aliens… Well I think I found one… / / / / Peace and Hugs! :D

  • Another shot of the absolutely stunning sunset from the Big Sur coast. This shot isn’t enhanced so the colours should be about as accurate as eyes would have seen if looking at the scene from the beach. The camera’s exposure setting wasn’t particularly long but the ISO was up there a bit, tho Nikon says there shouldn’t be much noise until it get a LOT higher up than I had it. I did have a rather wide aperture tho. I could have used the camera’s PROGRAM setting to control shutter speed and aperture but I was experimenting with my own ability to make the settings on MANUAL, tho this was the first shot of a three-shot (shutter speed) bracket. The other two shots were far too light with my boosted ISO setting. PS The horizon is level but you’ll have to trust me on this. I used the leveling tool on the tripod and matched it with the guide lines I always leave showing in the camera’s display. But between the non-level fog bank, the fading light from left to right, the semi-curved waves, and the completely angled beach, the eye can get quite confused as to what was the deciding factor.

  • Featured in the Divine Feminine Group Acrylic on 9×12 canvas board The title comes from a line in the song ‘Imaginary’ by Evanescence. Everytime I would hear ‘goddess of imaginary light’ I would picture a big eyed creature of Faerie similar to the art of Jasmine Becket-Griffith . I thought she would be right at home out in space amongst the shooting stars and aurora borealis. She also makes a good Tarot card. She is The Star When you cannot help yourself, the Star tells you to look to the heavens for guidance. Or, more appropriately, look to the spark of divinity that lies within yourself that you could not see or acknowledge before. Each of us has a little piece of the Star deep inside, waiting to cast its light into the world to light the way. This is what Crowley meant when he affirmed that “every man and every woman is a star.” She is your inner star, pointing you towards your destiny and lighting your way. ‘Imaginary’ I linger in the doorway / Of alarm clock screaming monsters calling my name / Let me stay / Where the wind will whisper to me / Where the raindrops as they’re falling tell a story In my field of paper flowers / And candy clouds of lullaby / I lie inside myself for hours / And watch my purple sky fly over me Don’t say i’m out of touch / With this rampant chaos – your reality / I know well what lies beyond my sleeping refuge / The nightmare i built my own world to escape In my field of paper flowers / And candy clouds of lullaby / I lie inside myself for hours / And watch my purple sky fly over me Swallowed up in the sound of my screaming / Cannot cease for the fear of silent nights / Oh how i long for the deep sleep dreaming / The goddess of imaginary light Video with Lyrics

  • Used Poser 6, Painter X, Photoshop CS. and PhotoScape. / I’m still undecied on this one, but I’m never happy with anything I do. I still might make some changes. Best viewed large A 3D digital image of a German Me 262 was the world’s first operational jet-powered fighter aircraft. It was produced in World War II and saw action starting in 1944 as a multi-role fighter/bomber/reconnaissance/interceptor warplane for the Luftwaffe. The Me 262 had a negligible impact on the course of the war due to its late introduction, with 509 claimed Allied kills. and a English Spitfire Mk in a dogfight.
