Spring time at Shinjuku Gyoen in the heart of Tokyo.
Urban cityscape as viewed from the observation deck of the Shinjuku government tower (the south one, I think) in Tokyo, Japan. (Admission is free to both towers’ observation decks, so if you’re ever in Shinjuku, bear that in mind. Bear in mind also that your chances of the weather being clear enough to see Mt Fuji are cripplingly small. I certainly didn’t see it!) Anyway, back to the shot: I like it, it’s pretty cool, and I just adore Tokyo; but I was really, REALLY surprised when it won the October pentaxforums forum challenge poll, for the theme : “Cityscape” 8)) So in that regard, I guess it is the most ‘popular’ photo I’ve taken, as well as one I like!

Riding the Yamanote train line in Tokyo. This shot was taken just before peak time after leaving Shinjuku station which is the busiest in the world. Over 3 million people commute through Shinjuku station every day.
Pachinko parlours abound in Tokyo. This one is located in Kabukico, in Shinjuku ward. Kabukicho is regarded as one of the more serious red-light districts in Tokyo. This is a small slice of an enormous Pachinko parlour with hundreds of machines. The noise emanating from this parlour was extraordinary. I am sure frequent Pachinko-ists will suffer hearing problems. R e f l e x i o

So wrong, yet strangely, so right. jL
I was out with one of my students the other night. We were on our way to the top of the NS Building and found this view from the 13th Floor. The borders top and bottom are actually the window-surrounds. I shot this at about f/7.1 for 2seconds, lens-hood removed, lens flat against the window with my weight pushing against it to brace it still. No tripod? Just improvise! Nikon D300 / Tokina 11-16mm f/2.8
I was back up at the Bunkyou Civic Centre yesterday, this time with one of my students. The sunset was extraordinary. It was impossible to control the lens-flare as I was shooting straight into the sun for this shot. Five-shot bracketed HDR with very little done to the colour. This is pretty much, apart from a bit of a shift in the tonal contrast, what the scene looked like through the lens. Nikon D300 / Nikkor 80-200mm f/2.8 ED / 5-frame bracketed burst merged in Photomatix 2.5.4
Another from the couple of hours I was shooting at Bunkyou Civic Centre the other evening. This one was shot a little after the sun had gone down showing the amazing Shinkousha [Cocoon] building in Shinjuku on the right with the twin towers of the Tokyo Metropolitan Government building, Tocho, to the left. Mount Fuji had been hidden in cloud for most of the time me and mhy buddy Jonathan were shooting. But, for just ten minutes or so, it poked its head out the clouds. Snap! Gotcha. Nikon D300 / Nikkor 300mm f/4 ED / 5-frame bracketed burst / HDR Merged in Photomatix 2.5.4
This bicyclist turned her head just as I was firing off my camera. / The Shinjuku district of Tokyo is famous for its Kabuki theatre, prostitution, gambling and cheap food. It’s also home to the busiest train station in the world.

Shinjuku, Tokyo, Japan. I wanted to get a shot of the the red brick building with the boy in it, without him knowing. When I pointed my camera, he looked at the building to see what I was taking a picture of. I like the different elements of activity in this picture.
