I’ve got them. Along with a wee dose of conjunctivitis too – just to make the experience especially memorable. At first I thought it was a heat rash. Sunday before last I did some work in the garden and Monday I felt a tad low. We had some warm nights last week, and they didn’t help much either. But then my eye started to puff up Thursday; Friday, we were making jokes about it at work, but I had this tiredness I couldn’t shake off. Saturday I went to the doctor – just in the nick of time, because any longer would have given the bugs time to start partying on the eye itself. His description of the possibilities that could entail… / Shingles is supposedly an old folks ailment. Christ – if I had to get it, I’m glad I got it now when I’m 47 and still in pretty good health. Because going through this in 20 or 30 years’ time would probably drive me completely bugfuck insane. / I was planning to be back with you this weekend, but that might be delayed for a while yet. This has pretty much drained me of my energy – and the pain doesn’t give me much chance to sleep at night. Doc gave me a certificate for the whole week. If the weekend is any guide I’ll be dozing on the couch most of the time.
