This is Sprague Lake, within the Rocky Mountain National Park. This week the lake is still about 90% frozen. Looking across the lake you can see several mountain peaks thickly covered in snow. These peaks are actual glaciers and their crevases hold up to 30 feet of solid ice year round. Even when it is 85 degrees out there, these glaciers aren’t going anywhere.

My friend and Estes Park neighbor, Shiloh and Me on the Wild Basin Trail in Rocky Mountain National Park yesterday. The whole area was snowpacked and beautiful. We did have to pay attention and stay in the middle of the trail….or…...as you can see, if we even stepped off a little to the side, we would sink up to our knees! It was a fun day…. :-)

I had the awesome fortune this afternoon of spending about an hour with Brother Coyote. At one point he was no further than 4 feet from me, and I could hear him breath, as my heart beat in time with his. He honored me with his presence and was completely accepting of mine (Moraine Park region of the Rocky Mtn. Nat’l Pk, Colorado) / /

The tongue of a butterfly is just amazing….it is tubular and they eat by sucking the moisture and liquid of dew, rain drops, nectar and such….much like we use a straw…. / just fascinating to watch! / This little guy resides at the Butterfly Pavilion in Westminster, Colorado….. / A definite must see if you’re ever in the area!!!

A pair of Bull Elk grazing through the snow, at the wetlands of Beaver Meadows, along Trail Ridge Road in Rocky Mountain Nat’l Park Colorado… / November is a wonderful month to capture images of Elk in these parts…..they wander from the 10 thousand foot elevations all the way to 6 thousand feet, sometimes in pairs, sometimes single, and when we are lucky enough to see it, sometimes they number in the hundreds as the herd moves. Even though I live in the midst of these amazingly peaceful animals, I never hesitate to stop, watch, be in awe, and snap a few shots.

A group of Elk were grazing by the side of the road and when I backed up to position the capture, the trees had made a perfectly framed photo…. love it when Nature plays along !
