Transfomers. They’re more than meets the eye, and because I was never that much a fan of the cartoons, I really liked the previous movie a lot. Pity I’ve now seen this movie and was more than a little disappointed by it. I believe the wording of my Facebook status afterwards was: “[I] watched Transformers II to dull the pain of work… and now I’m turning to alcohol to dull the pain of Transformers II”. If you don’t remember the previous movie, I even challenged myself to write a 15 minute version of Transformers in homage to Cleolinda Jones’ excellent book filled with similar (and certainly superior) style synopses. Whether I can do one for Transfomers II without putting myself through watching it again (which I’m kind of reluctant to do) I’ll have to see. Still, I had the day of the Premiere off work (after a half-marathon the day before), and I even had the chance to line up a bit earlier than usual, this time in the hope of getting photos of an unusually attractive cast (by which I obviously mean Megan Fox) Was it worth it? For the amount of time I lined up – No. For the experience – perhaps. To the possibly permanent detriment of my relationship to my camera and its autofocus system – Yes, or maybe No, depending on the wording. / All of a sudden, dozens of employees texted their bosses to explain they couldn’t come in to work because of the giant robots roaming around parts of London… / I see….. / In defence of these teen girls’ efforts, some of my pieces of analysis have been accused of similar incoherence. / The award for cutest reporter of the day goes to…. (I felt this album needed to be balanced by the inclusion of at least one female who wasn’t Megan Fox. And besides, she is cute..) / Actor John Turturro, who may or may not have been wearing his awesome hawaiian boxers and ‘Sector Seven’ singlet under his suit…. / ... although it is possible he was. / Actor Tyrese Gibson (and behind him, the head of security at most of these premieres. Hmm…. perhaps I should pixelate him out of the picture to protect his identity?) / Actor Josh Duhamel, whom I can never quite accurately distinguish from actor Timothy Olyphant (from Deadwood and Die Hard 4.0). Not that this is a problem I need to deal with on a daily basis.. / Actress Megan Fox (did I swoon? Well… no. But I learned in the most devastating way imaginable that my camera appears to be female in that it staunchly preferred to not lock focus on her for some reason. We’re still not on speaking terms…) / Once again, actress (or should I say Walking Magazine Cover) Megan Fox. The black and white conversion in this photo and the other one is due to the distractingly yellow jackets of the police in the background. I simply call this photo Fox / We’re about half-way through the premiere and Megan Fox’s People find the time to brush her hair and reapply some makeup. I haven’t seen that at a premiere before… / Actor Shia LaBeouf may also be a victim of poor Pentax continuous centre-focussing, if his expression is anything to go by. That said, tens of thousands of screaming girls did their best to cheer him up / He doesn’t mind girls working on his engine. In fact, he prefers it. (Shia’s character did get some of the best lines in the previous movie, and apparently he and the actors who played his parents ad libbed a fair amount. Impressive) / I was hoping for a smile, but I suppose a blown kiss from Megan Fox isn’t too bad a thing to take home with me. / “Tom, the weather forecast is for rain and thunderstorms, and a sixty percent likelihood of giant fu^$king ROBOTS. Now let’s go back to the studio” / I’m still not entirely convinced Megan Fox is a good actress, but I am one hundred percent certain that most guys do not care. And her interviews are generally brilliant to listen to, so it’s a rare case of liking the actress more than the characters. (I’m sure she’s overjoyed…) / “Surely y’all’s name can’t ALL be ‘ebay’??” Megan Fox makes a fair point. / It’s director Michael Bay. If his movies are anything to go by, I expect (and sort of hope) that every time he has breakfast his toaster explodes in slow motion and five different camera angles!! / Interviewer : Hi / Megan Fox : Hi / Interviewer : .... / Megan Fox : ... / Interviewer : ... / Megan Fox : ... / Interviewer : Yeah. That’s all I’ve got, pretty much. Mind if I just keep staring at you? / Megan Fox : I guess not / We’re now three-quarters of the way through the premiere, and just about to do the group shot in front of the giant robot with the rest of the cast. Obviously it’s about time for another quick make-up touch-up. (And I agree… I reapply my lip-gloss several times each day> it’s all about having pride in your appearance, people!!) / Memo to : Shia LaBeouf . From : Every guy in Leicester Square. Message : YOU. ARE.STANDING. NEXT. TO. MEGAN. FOX. COULD. YOU. AT. LEAST. TRY. TO. LOOK. CHEERFULL?? Regards, Male population of Earth. / Ah… he’s finally realised it. Well noticed, sir. / The group shot. I don’t want to use this photo to pour scorn on the autofocus of the Pentax K10D in high pressure situations, but I set the camera to centre-focus for this (for… obvious reasons) but actor Tyrese Gibson on the far left is the person most in focus. And that makes no sense unless my camera hates me, or is a woman. Or possibly both. / Umm… okay. Well, at least I got one shot not obscured by thousands of reaching fans!! / Sigh… I’ll see you for the premiere of Transformers III, then?? Well, fanboy adulation notwithstanding, it joins the recent premieres I’ve been to: / The Hangover – Heather Graham! And some guys! / Tormented – People! Other People! / The Jonas Brothers 3D Experience – Jonas! Jonas! ... and Jonas! / A Night at the Museum2 – Stiller! Gervais! Azaria! / State of Play – Mirren! Crowe! / Star Trek – JJ Abrams! Eric Bana! Sylar! As well as the total Archive of Premieres So, fair enough I got a couple of not-too-bad-shots. But I won’t lie, it wasn’t my favourite premiere from a photographic perspective. Can’t wait for the movie, though, with my expecations kept firmly in check at ‘Terminator Salvation’ levels. Until next time!
