This portrait was taken days after almost losing my beloved pet Adrian. A six year old Australian Shephard. / It really is amazing how much we take for granted. / When faced with losing her I realized just how deep my feelings went. I discovered I was actually a compassionate being. Like I said, the things we take for granted. / Her surgery was very expensive and I have three children. I’ve quit my job recently and things are very tight to begin with. Alot of people have told me how crazy I was to spend that much money on a dog. Doesn’t seem the least bit crazy to me, after all, it’s only money. There always seems to be just enough of that. Adrian has fully recovered and is full spirit.

I have a whole collection of these basically from when the sky first started to go red as the sun rose to when it finally clouded over and you couldn’t see any blue at all. Only in the desert have I experienced anything this dramatic before. I made a great many sales on the xmas fair stall the next day. Luckily something made me make the images into greeting cards and they all sold in the first five minutes as it was still so fresh in everyones mind.

This young German Shepherd, named Fuzzy, was just over two when I was commissioned to do this portrait. He was a scary dog that was tearing at the fence to get to us but he was oddly afraid of my camera. When I got it out he ran and hid! It took a zoom lens to photograph him for this portrait. This is a graphite sketch on 11” x 14” 400series medium 80lb. drawing paper and took me one evening to do. Created by Linda Costello Hinchey of SW Virginia. Mom is caught here making her pup behave. I shot this at a car show event. These dogs were fantastically beautiful so I decided to steal a few quick shots when my children asked the owners if they could pet the puppy and when my daughter reached down to pet him he barked right in her face! In an instant this is what happened! I walk around my neighborhood every day, and this is one buddy I’ve made. I think the few minutes I spend with this fellow are very important to him; this morning I saw him sitting at the fence, watching the sidewalk, waiting for me. Taken with a fuji finepix A500.
