Just south of Lorne on the Great Ocean Road, hidden away in the bush the Sheoak river tumbles over these rocks, then makes it’s way to the sea in Bass Strait.

The tree is a Black Sheoak (Allocasuarina littoralis). / It is a small tree and has a slender trunk and a sparse, dark-green, conical crown. The bark is brown, hard and closely fissured. The leaves are minute, tooth-like, pointed, 0.3-0.9mm long. I found these vibrant red leaves that had recently fallen and loved the effect against the bark of this Sheoak (casuarina) tree at the Golden Valley Tree Park in Balingup. I like to play with the natural surroundings and encourage others to take a second look at the environment around them. The leaves kept their gorgeous colour for weeks. © Elva.
